Dream Theater: Afterlife..., Hmmm, That Chord Progression Sounds Familiar...

So I'm listening to Afterlife, the final time through, Petrucci is playing these fast arpeggios..., I play along with the chords...

F#m, 9th fret
C#, 9th fret
E, 7th
B, 7th

And I'm like, wait a minute, that's that song from Breaking Bad. And I track down the episode...., hmmm, seems to me it's around the time Walt killed Gus, and sure enough, S4E13, at the end, same Progression, 1/2 step higher.

Not that that's any big deal; It's a common progression, (Hold On Loosely, e.g.) but still.

I was like, huh! And pretty proud of myself for being able to not only recognize and remember it from BB, but also finding the episode.

I get the Danger Mouse/Norah Jones thing
It’s Gm D F C so same as the chords you have for DT up a 1/2 step

Or the first 4 bars of Hotel California Verse progression in B minor (with extensions)

Bm F♯7 Asus2 Eadd9

So they all are pretty much
Ⅰm Ⅴ ♭Ⅶ Ⅳ

What I don't get is how it connects to Hold On Loosely

I mean I get it is the same type of functional thing but the ones above are in minor and start on the tonic. With the same root movement more or less.

And hold on loosely has the chromatic root movement

E B/D♯ D A/C♯
