Have you made sure you're not overthinking something or falling victim to tunnel vision?

What exactly are you trying to do with that?

A single-button cycling switch might be a difficult quest.

Here’s what I’m thinking through. I want to set up a way to use an HX Stomp + Morningstar ML5 to handle instrument changes.

The concept is each instrument (electric, acoustic, nylon acoustic, mandolin, banjo) has its own input on the ML5 and the output of the ML5 goes to the HX Stomp input. Then, the HX Stomp has a preset for each instrument. So then when I send, for example, PC#1 it selects the electric preset on the Stomp and the electric input on the ML5 - PC#2 selects acoustic, PC#3 selects nylon, PC#4 mandolin, PC#5 banjo.

Then I just need to create a sequence of PC#’s for the instrument changes in a show so I can step through them sequentially.

I could do the same thing with a 6 footswitch MIDI controller and just have each footswitch send a specific PC, but I thought it would be nice if there was something smaller that I could just have one switch to hit every time I need to make an instrument change.

What about something like a midi mouse? A few more switches though.

Ideally what I’d like is something like this, but instead of cycling sequentially 1-2-3-4-5 I could program it to cycle a custom list like 2-3-1-2-4-1-5

I also figured I could use a second HX Stomp to accomplish this. I could have each preset send a specific PC, then cycle through presets… but it seems heavy handed to use a Stomp and power it just to use it to send PC messages

It's not quite as straightforward as that, but the Luminite Graviton M1 + XY joystick controller might be a great solution for you. You can stick the XY controller wherever you want and it takes barely any space. Its two 4 way joysticks + joystick press which you can assign to anything.

The M1 could go whereever you need a screen so it can show e.g your instrument on it.

You could use the M1 for this alone if e.g "pick up your mandolin, tap on a touchscreen" is a viable way to go.

A further idea would be to just use the buttons on the ML5 to turn the loops you need on and off.

Do you need to change instruments during a song by walking to one on a stand or is it "take off instrument A, pick up instrument B" between songs type deal?

I got it cause every now and then I do gigs where I need the QCs looper always on top, then I need something else to switch sounds. I have another controller, but QC doesn’t give power over usb, this is battery powered.

The good:
Battery powered
Seems a solid build
Easy to configure
Wireless
Bonus usecase: I sometimes use a BT pageturner for charts on my IPad, this can do that also.
Normal and longPress functionality
Multiple message per event
Cheap

The bad:
Defenitly not “all you can imagine” with regards to what it...
