Do you use your tone control?

All the time on my strat and LP but not very often on my tele for some reason. 50s wiring on the LP and I'm not a fan of treble bleeds either.

I use it on my Baun Wingman and Reverend Charger 290. As well as the bass contour that comes with the latter.

Especially if playing neck pickup.

This is what it looks like. It’s weird wiring. I had someone do sort of a Gretsch thing where the neck Volume/Tone work normally, but the bridge Volume/Tone are now a master Volume/Tone

Sounds like the pot taper was straight log and the two volumes in series isn’t helping. It presumably works quite well with gain?

I never touch my tone controls. I’ve actually consider disconnecting them. I do like them more with 50s wiring where the interaction is a bit different than your usual modern tone wiring.

I use the tone knob all the time. It's almost a must with my BluGuitar Amp 1 since it has a very aggressive bright cap.

I actually like the G&L Treble/Bass cut system a lot. I think the bass cut is more useful with humbuckers than single coils tho.

I have some guitars where I use the tone controls on them and others that I don't. I am also more of a fan of a tone controll with a smaller capacitor on it. I absolutely can't stand the standard Fender tone controls. I either don't use them or I change the cap on them if I feel I need it.

I just put a 0.047 phone book cap in my blackguard build wired modern no treble bleed and 275 k a pots . Works great , fully usable.

I do use it for quick "dial the brightness down" adjustment when playing and don't want to reach out in the amp to tame it.

If I'm redoing wiring, I usually go for orange drops.

I set my amps with the guitar volume on 7 and the tone rolled back to 7-8 for exactly the reasons you mentioned. It leaves me with finger tip control to go up or down on either.

Why is the default approach the default approach? Max the volume on the guitar and the gain on the amp?

It seems to limit tonality and control. Who drives 140 mph everywhere they go???

Even Vince Gill said he always has and does. You kind of have to, unless you want to brutalize eardrums and cilia!

Honestly, I don't know if it really is the default, although it seems to be ever more popular. The people I watched a lot growing up used the guitar volume and tone controls all the time, so that was the default for me.

Never adopted that technique, everything dimed to 10 and use either my pickup selector or stomp a pedal to get my desired changes.
