Although I did modify my Shorty by cutting down the headstock, changing the pickup, adding a handrest behind the bridge and adding more material into the gig bag.
Travel rig also has the Spark Go, replacing the Nu-X Mighty Plug and JBL Go speaker I was using for a while, and some IEMs for quiet time.
I used to have one of these -- a Yamaha VA-2. Actually loved it because it would get a very cool OD sound when cranked, almost like "Reelin' in the Years" lead tone. I even used it mic'd up in a few recordings back in the day.
After searching far and wide for a simple, inexpensive but reliable travel rig, I settled on these. A no frills AnyGig guitar, a Lekato micro amp, and a small clip on tuner. The guitar has one humbucker, no controls on board. Tuning works very well, neck feels fine, PU sounds good. Basic but gets the job done. Amp is rechargeable via USB and plugs directly into the guitar. It has 3 sounds: clean, distortion and reverb. The tuner is the smallest I could find. All items fit in the gig bag. I bought in January of this year and took on a month long international multi destination trip as a carryon item. Fits in overhead bins easily, no problems at all with check in and security. I've bought and sold other travel guitars over the years, and looked at many more, but this setup ticked all the boxes.
I'm currently traveling and this rig is working out great.
The Ciari Ascender Standard never ceases to amaze everybody (its neck bends). Beefy humbucker tones.
Tonex One. Yeah, the software (still) sucks and I prefer my Fractals of course, but it's a no-brainer for portability. Two amp tones, level and a tuner, that will do. And the output is flexible: instrument / line / headphones. I'm filling in on some public jam sessions here, I just connect to FOH and I roll. (I also have a Fender Mustang Micro plus, but rarely use it.)
JBL Flip Essential, with AUX, "good enough" amplification for small parties.
And all this in a carrying bag that small enough to shove under a seat in the airplane.
A very satisfying package.
