Digital Igloo (Eric Klein, YGG)

Features are just features. Doesn't necessarily matter what form factor they go into. The big question is if there's a real need to explore a new HX Effects-type device at all, given the understanding that other form factors could potentially cover the same ground.
I believe it is, Eric — that’s why I’m such a nuisance 🙂 The Stomp, as cool as it is, isn’t the best option if you need a reliable MIDI controller. The lack of individual screens per footswitch is a deal-breaker for me, as is having only three footswitches. The XL version offers more switches, but without per-switch displays I’d be completely lost — especially once you add long-press and double-tap functions — unless I limit myself to very specific assignments, like a boost only on a double tap. If you re-imagined the purpose of HX Effects and made it primarily a MIDI controller with effects, I honestly think sales could increase.

Run a pool, brain storm it with your guys ;)

It's definitely me (old but not boomer old) but if the thing is on the floor how can you read the scribble strips? I rely on colour and keeping a joint of template for type of effect and it still goes wrong.

Not boomer old? 😂

You should be able to read the scribble strips e.g. on a Helix Floor easily while standing up, then. Some complain about sunlight problems, but in general I'd say the letters are legit readable, and the Stadium is probably similar (if not better).

Out of curiosity, is it the form factor? Lack of scribble strips? Just knowing amps and cabs are in there, even though you don't have to use them?

I add my answer because Stomp is not for me either,
I'd take HX FX over stomp any day if I ever need a smaller than helix unit, I'd might consider stomp XL over HX FX but I'm not sure.

For me, the way I play, the way (and the why) I use a multi fx, the number of footswitches is really important. The more, the better.

I will say that, my journey with HX started with Helix Floor, and then continued with Stomp XL, so scribble strips to non-scribble strips and, FOR THE EXISTING SWITCHING, there wasn't any adjustment period. (Note: plenty of people use the Helix LT without scribble strips).

We are all different, etc, BUT, the Stomps DO give you a layout to see what you are doing, it's just not scribble strips, and like previously said, that's what the different colors on the footswitches are for.

As you said, if you add long press and double tap, maybe then it gets a little more scary, but I'd personally rather have an HX Stomp XL, especially to fit onto a pedalboard, or to carry by itself, (mine fits in a mono tick bag with a mission expression pedal and other cables/accessories), that is also a backup piece to whatever else you are using, because it has the modeling :)

HXFX was my gateway to all things digital and I still think it's the perfect form factor/number of switches, at least for me. Better than Stomp, Stomp XL, and VP4. Having a few amp models available would be nice as a backup, though.

Totally agree — it’s all about personal needs. I prefer to have everything available within a single bank, which is why I really value double taps and long presses. Being able to use those for things like opening the snapshot page, activating the tuner, muting, or A/B bank toggle...

That said, if Stadium ever gets a “little brother” — roughly half the size of the Stadium Floor — and adds support for double/long presses along with the convolution engine, I wouldn’t think twice.

Yeah, no! Plenty of Gen Xers are old enough to no longer be able to see shit, and the first set of millennials are now on the wrong side of 40 and will be discovering reading glasses soon, and by that I mean much quicker than NDSP "SOON"
That also applies to the small screen of the stomp.

A slightly larger Stomp Plus (Stompium?) form factor with a larger display would help those aging eyes.

I am not a fan of screens on the floor. Let the interface run on an iPad on a stand. Then the 50-60 somethings can get an iPad, the 40 somethings can get an iPad mini, and the old geezers can get an iPad Pro, or if that doesn’t work, a 75” TV they* can screen mirror to.

* with the help of their eye rolling grand kids of course.

Understood, and:

I'd bet the farm that something like that is coming in the future.
