I’ve LONG been curious about Tonebenders and came across a good deal that got me into a mk I for a seemingly reasonable price.

So far I REALLY dig it. Here’s some pics.

I also took a short clip with my tele through a 78 Princeton Reverb but it doesn’t look like I can attach it here.

I think I’ve been bitten by the bug. For context, I’ve been a fuzz face fan for a long time and have experience building them and modifying them.

This thing trades out the fuzz face cleanup for IMO a much more balanced tone that seems like it wouldn’t get lost in a live mix like a fuzz face often does. There’s a very pleasant mid range push that makes it feel expressive where the fuzz face sometimes loses all definition. The gating is cool too, and can be tuned a bit with the bias knob.

One last thing is the sag/compression with slow recovery when hitting it with strong signals or big chords. It produces a breathing type effect that I don’t usually get from my fuzz faces.

Really cool circuit. Can’t wait to hit my Superlead with it later.
