I’ve voiced my displeasure at Gibson getting all lawsuit frothy, but this is a bit cringey and comes off more as “We’re just going to waste a whole bunch of money on inevitable lawsuits in an attempt to be edgy”
 
Prior lawsuits were upheld for headstocks only, IIRC.

Gibson is trying to push for body style as well - which they're entitled to do.

If they win it will create a shit storm even for DIY guitars where everything will have to be licensed.

I guarantee Fender and others will be close behind if the courts rule on the body shape as protected design IP.

I thought it was headstock and body, IIRC it practically a replica (in terms of shape at least). Had a hard time feeling sorry for the guy on that one, especially since his story was fishy as heck

Yeah, I don’t remember the details but it definitely seemed like a “Yeah I’m facing legal issues for something I knew I’d probably face legal troubles over but how can I turn this into profit?” situation to me.

And there was the part where he claimed Gibsons lawyers hacked his computers and deleted his daughters soccer game from his calandar or some such nonsense :rofl
 
I played an Ibanez Destroyer in the early 80's like Adrian Smith's except mine had a double locking Floyd (1983) who can say that??
Anyhow, did Ibanez get sued also?
The Dean headstock is way cooler looking than the V one they used for years. That was laaaame! :bonk

I'm OK with the headstock business, but when it comes to body shapes, there are only so many ways to skin a 🐈!

No one buys a Dean thinking they are getting a Gibson, and Gibson should take a long hard look at what they've knocked out in the past...

I don't think it's that simple, when they had decades to defend it, and did nothing.
