Cracks and splits

Now that the cold, dry weather is here I’ve developed the annual splits in my fretting hand fingers.
What solutions are you using to combat this?
Super gluing the crack ?
I’ve not tried this yet but am thinking it might work.
Normally I just deal with the pain, but this time it’s lingering longer than usual.
 
I'd be interested in hearing real world experiences on this as well. A google search gave me this result. The reviews are very positive.

Works very well, but leaves a oily feeling residue on your hands. Definitely want to wash your hands before playing.

I use this in the summer for healing callous cracks and skin splits that refuse to heal.

Works well.....but so does good ole corn huskers lotion!

Does this product soften callouses?
If so I’m not so sure I would want my finger tips to become softer 🤔

A little, but not enough to really worry about.

I use it...leave it in for a bit....then wash my hands ......

There may be some dead skin that peels of...but it really should not be an issue...that I remember.

I found it kind of deterred me from playing because of the feeling on my hands....which is why I wash them before playing.
 
What's your environment like? Maybe you need a humidifier, unless it's from being outdoors of course. Can't do much about that, wrt humidity levels.

I occasionally get them, but on the tops of my fingers on the sides of the nail. For me, using a cream before they start seems to do the trick.
 
My former mother in law had some crazy dry skin issues with her hands, a diet changed resolved it (she went plant based) but leading up to it she was trying everything, the one thing that seemed to work was this wax procedure she’d do. It basically looked like a crockpot she’d melt this special wax into then submerge her hands in it then when pulled out they’d be wax gloves she’d keep on for a while. I wonder if that’d work in this situation?

I’m only in my music room an hour or so per day.
The majority of the time I work in a manufacturing environment.
I don’t think a humidifier would be much help in my situation.
 
Now days, I actually use a moisturizing medicated salve I make myself.

Coconut oil
Beeswax
Olive oil
Shea butter
Essential oils
Cannabis oil

Best ever ..and helps with arthritis pain....also natural and organic....no I'm not a hippy!

I honestly don't listen to anything past 4......I stay in that wetlands era stuff.....cause I'm not a hippy......

Seriously though, it's a long standing joke amongst my old friends and my wife ....
I present as a hippy....but I identify as a rough neck biker.....I understand the confusion....

I go by bro/brother/hey dickhead
 
Drink more water.... and stay away from crap that depletes your body of it's
essential hydration.

I know. Crappy answer. :LOL:

I drink a Gallon + a day. I also use an whole house humidifier in my home
from November to April set to 40%. Because I love my wood. :beer

I played many gigs on guitar with a Blues Traveler/John Popper Tribute guy.
Out of the gate it was amazing. Just so different than what I had ever done
before, but by the end my ears were bleeding. I feel ya duzie! :rofl

Funny thing is he'd ask me before a song.... "What key is it in again?"

I was like, "This is your show, Bud!" :hmm
 
The natural stuff is good. That said, I tend to use Cortizone 10 often, usually after I get cleaned up after a long day. That really helps with dryness. I work with wood everyday so splinters, cuts, scrapes is just part of it. I don't wear gloves. For cuts i normally use super glue right away, especially if it's on my fretting hand.
