I'm sure you've figured out by now that I am crazier than a Mad Hatter.

I'll get to why in a sec, but first, let's talk about 'Mad Hatters' in history and why 'Mad Hatter' was a thing and not merely a fictional character:

People who made felt for hats (they made felt from fur for good hats) used mercury nitrate in making the felt. Mercury nitrate created a toxic vapor they breathed all day, and that gave them mercury poisoning. Mercury poisoning causes mental and neurological disorders. They probably didn't know that in the 19th Century. They just thought making hats made hatters go crazy.

I've never made a hat or had mercury poisoning. So I have no excuse. I now return you to my post:

"How about this then: I'd get Polamps."

"Not funny either."

"It's a play on an NOS tube called the Polamp and the word polyp."

"Too esoteric. Just keep the friggin' amps."

"But then I'll have paralysis by analysis."

"As a psychoanalyst I resemble that remark, but I'm not paralyzed at all. Go build a pedalboard or something."

"I no longer need my dirt pedals, either."

"You know I love hearing about the dirty stuff, but I'm sorry, that's all the time we have today. I have an appointment to be fitted for a new hat."

"Thanks doc. What do I owe you?"

"Nothing, I'm dead. Money has no value here. Tell me about your mother next time."

I forgot to tell Dr. Freud that I don't think I need two cabs with V-30s, and I should probably put different speakers in one of them, but then Mesa came out with that half open back / half closed back speaker cab reissue with C-90s and I'm tempted as all fuck to go with one of those, and not have to monkey around changing speakers. But that's a whole 'nother kettle of hats.

That would, of course, require me to AMPutate one of my V30 cabs (because I'd need the space and I really only love the Grissom cab that has v30s).

The Mark VII sounds best to me through the Lone Star open back combo with two of the Mesa C-90s, so that halfback cabinet would be killer with it, is my guess.

Ideally, I'd like to have one to match my Mark VII. I mean, why not!

I have my dealer checking to see if Mesa will do it.

I'd be happy with just matching the vinyl and the corners, if they won't do the wicker on the Halfback. Nothing wrong with the metal grille; but I'd like to get a match if I can.

Seems to me the cab is one of those 'best of both worlds' things. If they'll do it, the order is placed. If not, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

its definitely my favorite cab that ive ever played but mostly cause its all the best parts of a combo on a thiele... just better cause its bigger and if i ran a head... yes please! i was always meh on the grille cause... metal. but id live with it for the sonics!

Having tried the Mark VII with my four cabs - ported pine DG30 2x12 with V30s; Birch ply closed back 2x12, older PRS cab, about the same size as Recto with V30s; 4x10 Boogie open back with Creambacks; and Lone Star combo with Mesa C-90s; turns out I like the Mark best with the Lone Star's C-90s.

I could probably just run it through the Lone Star, since I have an amp and cab switcher, but I like the idea of the halfback, and I want the amp to have its own cab. So I told my dealer to order it if I can get it remotely close to what I have. If not, I may still get it, I just want to think about it a minute first.

I had the metal grille on the cab I had with my Bass 400+, and it doesn't rattle, works fine, all good. If memory serves, they have rubber standoffs to prevent rattles.
