I totally dig EJ's tone and playing; have ever since Ah Via Musicom came out.
I had been learning this piece, so not up to speed (that'll take a while to nail!), but I did manage to memorize each note.
I approach difficult pieces like this in chunks; take a chunk, repeat it until finger muscle memory/brain has it down, then next chunk, and so on.
Then chain the chunks together; start with the first two chunks, try adding third chunk, etc.
Eventually it all comes together.
So anyhoo, not to speed, but definitely note-for-note. Used my 68 plexi style with a similar tone control setting as EJ (he turns the treble completely off, for ex. !) and boosted with some sort of mild gain stomp that I don't remember the name of. Think I used my 2008 Gibson CS SG here. I don't have a BK Butler Tube Driver so I had to find something in the ballpark. A quick take, so not tone/FX accurate to album tone.
