Cantrell / Facelift modded JMP

A friend/customer asked about modding a butchered JMP into a simple, no options Facelift machine. It went pretty well. A one-trick pony but who cares, it's a good trick.

That sounds amazing, bang on to early Cantrell tones! Is that a relatively common/known "Snorkler" mod or is it something you had to create?

Always loved JC so thought why not have some fun. We kinda started with the Bogner Snorkler mod that's been around for years, but had to go significantly off-script with the preamp and tonestack voicing to get that honky grind going on.

Pro - it sounds cool. Con - it does nothing well but this one specific tone!

I used to think I loved this tone, but what i really love is the playing/performances and the songs. I feel like their later tones are much better, or at least more to my taste.

But no denying that the first two AIC albums are iconic for a number of reasons, and the tone is unique which is part of it. I’m not sure how well this tone stands up in any other context, but when the playing and songs are right, the weird aspects of the tone add to it. And it’s a credit to your playing that you got that side of it nailed as much as the technical side.

There’s a couple tones I absolutely love but would not want to play through mysel as a regular tone,, Petrucci’s modern tones and Cantrell’s early AIC tones. And some of those brighter tones on Facelift, man, I bet those sounded pretty nasty in person. IT wouldn’t be my live amp, but man I want one for the studio!

I can answer that! It's somewhat ok for similar styles, but when I say one trick pony I mean one narrow and specific trick.
