Thinking about the Boss BCB-1000 pedal box/board today, and I realized that the BCB-1000 cannot fit three Boss 500 series pedals across. Each 500 series unit is 170 mm wide, so three of them are a total of 510 mm wide, which is 20.07" width, and the BCB-1000's pedalboard is only 19.5" wide. Even if you ditched the board and mounted them directly to the lid, the area of the inside of the lid is only 19.75" wide.
That's really unfortunate. I realize, of course, that the 500 series units were designed long before the BCB-1000, but the 22" x 14" x 9" airline carry-on standard has been in place for decades. Had Boss made the 500 series pedals just a little bit shorter, say 160 mm wide instead of 170mm, they could have fit three across inside a carry-on piece of luggage like the BCB-1000 (whose external dimensions are 22" x 14" x 7-11/16".
