Boomers vs. Millennials (Generational Warfare)

Have you tried Durian?

I just gotta say, that fuckin' thing there holding the bass guitar and talking.... is the fuel of nightmares.

What is that... thing? :wat

There’s plenty to worry about with each and every generation that has ever and will ever exist. Humanity runs a wide gamut, ranging from children who are able to write calculus books at age 10, to adults who still wear Velcro shoes.

If there’s anyone I’m acutely worried about, it’s the 65+ crowd (and growing) who lags DRAMATICALLY behind younger groups in information literacy skills, an issue that will only grow with AI advancement in the misinformation space.

The next decade plus will be some of the most difficult we’ve encountered in that regard, particularly as we inch closer to AGI and a potential post-encryption world.

Yeah, I’m already getting previews of it. I was at my dad’s this weekend and despite him working with computers since the 90’s and being technologically minded, he gets a “wrong number” text on his phone and 10 minutes later is saying “Hey Andy, check this out, this woman texted the wrong person but now I’m talking to her!”

I had to double-sigh; A) he’s married and B) he didn’t realize it was a bot/scam/bullshit.

Ugh I’m sorry, I know exactly what that is like.

My wife lost her father unexpectedly a couple years ago and last year all of the sudden her widowed mother is giddy she has a new internet love interest. Then we see the photo, a blatantly obvious stock image. We were able to dig a bit more and confirm it.

That was one of the harder conversations I’ve had in my lifetime on multiple fronts, and devastating and embarrassing for my widowed mother in law. She insists no money changed hands and I hope it’s true.

I have similar concerns about my parents as they are getting up there. About once a month I’ll find my mother posting dates of birth, where the kids were born, maiden name, etc on public facing Facebook “polls” that are absolutely honey pots.

This is going to get grim and we’re not prepared for it. People are going to lose retirements, etc.
