Black Friday Plugin Sales

Anyone with experience on this?

I have been doing EQ matching trickery with IRs for a long time now, but what this does seems cool, and may make working with IRs faster

It's also part of a bigger bundle that has a bigger discount (so probably don't buy mcabinet itself only).

I have it since a long time already. Never got too great results using the onboard shaping tools (allowing you to kinda virtually build IRs).

For me, a neat combination is Ghost Note Audio's Spectrum Thief:

along with Lancaster Audio's Pulse 2 IR loader:

Audio Thief has Match EQing and IR export combined, Pulse 2 allows you to mix, match and EQ up to 4 IRs and export a single one.
So you could for example "steal" the sonic signature of whatever it might be using Audio Thief and then load the resulting IR into Pulse 2 to mix it with other IRs, do some final retouching and what not.

Spent a good amount of time trying to learn it and just couldn’t get on with it at all. It’s typical Melda - really deep, almost like an entire DAW in a plugin. Has tons of features but it’s not intuitive at all and there’s so many things to learn within menus and sub menus and preferences. IMO the trade off isn’t worth it.

Cabinetron would be my shout if you’re after a cab sim with eq matching.

Ok. Good to know. That's been more or less my issue with melda plugins before. Could be great, but they tend to be unintuitive enough for me to abandon them eventually.

ML Sound Lab is everything 50% off.

I picked up MIKKO Reflex, but haven't had time to explore it. Because the licensing system with request keys for ML is straight up arse, I've got MIKKO 2 on my Mac and MIKKO Reflex on my Windows PC. I'll probably move everything to one system at some point.

I've gotten a lot of use from MIKKO 2 and liked what I heard from the Reflex demo version with just one cab, so I felt it was worth adding. It would be nice if both were in the same product tho since it's the same UI and everything.

Interested in the UA Ocean Ways plugin, but I'll wait until I can get it in some good bundle sale. I hope they will do some better sale on actual Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
I bought the ML sound lab nam/tonex capture pack. Obviously different from MIKKO 2, but was quite unimpressed by the IRs included in the pack. Muddy, indistinct -- for my tastes. They were replaced immediately.

So I'm not sure how much I'd like the stuff in MIKKO 2. Maybe I would, because previously I remember liking their IRs, even if not quite as much as York stuff.

Try the trial version of the apps for yourself. Even with limited options you can get an idea if it's something that would work for you or not.
I've just built my own mixes to my liking since it's easy to just move mics around. You can even mix multiple cabs together if you want.

I generally don't care for York Audio for anything higher gain, while liking them a lot for clean/lower gain stuff.

I'll try this out, thanks.

Re: Cabinetron
Apart from having more slots and built in match EQ-ing, it doesn't allow for much more than the combination of Audio Thief and Pulse.
Well, of course it does - but I don't think it's stuff I usually need. But very obviously, ymmv.

And fwiw, I just gave MCabinet a short testrun. It's really not as bad as it once was. There's a pretty simplified UI now, in case you don't need the deep edits. Yet, I don't see myself using it all that often.

I bought Cabinetron last year on Black Friday, and I have been happy with it. I don't do anything very complicated, but it has worked for me and it also don't require iLok, so that is a plus.

Terrible workflow, and doesn't sound particularly great IMHO.

There’s many killer features in Cabinetron that most others can’t do, or if they can it’s not implemented well. Type to search for IR’s means you don’t have to dig through folders to find what you need. I have some gripes with it, but the landscape for solid, stable IR loaders is pretty thin and I don’t really trust many of the free/cheaper offerings out there for reliable use. Ymmv

What's your view on cabinetron?
I haven't tried it yet tbh. It has too many features and I was a bit put off by that. Everything is kind of just throw up on screen, and it isn't how I'd want to design a cab plugin at all really. There's also a lot of additional processing going on in the DSP chain from what I can gather, that effectively distorts the IR convolution process, and my worry is it would detract from the purity of the IR's themselves.

Also the dimension mixer is just not what I would want. I'd prefer an actual microphone style experience.

Personally I'm okay right now with Cab Lab 4.

Can cab lab export IRs to be used in other products, like loaded on tonex? Confused about that. Apparently no? Also, the packs are pretty expensive for me, even if you get a lot with dyna cabs -- so at least for me, it's a no for now.

I've used several of their plugins. It terms of sound, they've been good for me. But even after years, the usability is a thorn on my side. If I don't use the plugins for a month or two, my brain needs to recalibrate to their UI, which takes away from the creative process.

And really, I don't want that happening.

Might be cool to share any nice deals that pop up in the next couple weeks.

I’m waiting to see if we get something on:
  • Tonality Josh Middleton (That friggin 5150 is 🔥 and I’m not normally a straight 5150 dude)
  • FabFilter MB Comp (Finally going to pull the trigger)
  • Eminence Karnivore IR (Smoking crack at $50)
  • Lexicon PCM Native Reverb (It’s showing a $100 discount, but I still am not paying that lol)
Y’all waiting on something specific? Seen anything cool yet?
I use the FabFilter MB and Lexicon reverb in all my mixes. They are both spectacular.

For me, I'm looking to see if Valhalla has any sales. I am lacking an inspiring VST delay and theirs has become somewhat of a standard the past few years.

SIR Audio Tools has started a 50% discount on products and bundles. Definitely one of my favourite plugin companies. SIR3 is my most used IR loader (and its included reverb library is really, really good) und their gate and spectrum analyzer plugins are awesome as well.

This week you can get SIR3, StandardGATE and Spectrum Analyzer in a bundle for only 50€/$50.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Valhalla will have a sale because their stuff is so competitively priced by default. Incredible value!

Valhalla Delay is fully :chef
