Black Friday.. Did Ya Grab Anything?

Neck deep in Mic Preamps, Compressors, and EQs. Decided I prefer hardware options
on the front end versus VSTs.

It's actually fucking awesome (and kind of nuts!) how many different options there are
where people are cloning iconic outboard gear and console channel strips.

API. SSL. Neve.

What a great time to be alive.... and for my wallet to be dead.

I refuse to do Ads, so I passed on the streaming deals. I wonder why they don't offer any deals
on their Ad-Free streaming options. :idk
I never understood the “pay us to watch advertisements” mentality. Corporate greed. Plain and simple.

I hear the MSFS2024 launch was a total disaster....I have 2020....I might pick up 2024 a few years down the road when they've patched everything up proper.
Yeah, I'm seeing and reading the same. I will most likely go with 2020 as well until MS fixes all the bugs in 2024

The engineers I was working under back in my early studio days nearly unanimously tracked through hardware color pieces, at least for everything other than the classical stuff. That was recorded almost clinically clean. I remember being shocked at how much saturation and compression they were willing to commit to on the way in.

I tend to follow that same opinionated approach where possible and prefer it both sonically and as a mental workflow thing. I’d rather be deliberate in my decisions than end up hand wringing for infinity. It’s also fun as hell to turn those knobs and see the needles start jumping.

I’m just now starting to shop for some hardware. What are you liking for pre and compressor clones these days. The Audioscape stuff looks promising. I’m even a little intrigued by the Warm Bluey and 1176KT to throw on vocals in our silent rehearsal rig.

I’d love to get a decent 1073, 1176, LA2A, and API clone this year.

A friend grabbed a Katana Mini X for her dad just as new year started. He can play his guitar while at work when taking a break.

We were unsure whether to buy it or a Blackstar fly. I got to audition both at a store which had both.

I really enjoyed playing the Katana, and found the tuner to be very useful. The delay seemed to be set around 500 ms, but this could be wrong as I am not good with delays and don't much use this effect.

We took his old gibson les paul to the store, so that we could hear how it may sound. I am not used to such heavy guitars, the wood had quite some weight. But it was a fun experience.

She had scouted the deal on Black Friday, so posting it here.
