Best customer service I’ve had in years

1-800-Contacts.

I had a terrible experience (multiple) with America’s Worst, one of 2x I’ve written to a company to inform them of how terrible their service was in 43 years. So when it was time to order some new lenses I went with 1-800-Contacts. There was an issue with my order (that America’s Worst was supposed to catch when 1-800 called to verify my script) but they didn’t, unsurprisingly, the contacts don’t fit properly.

So I call 1-800 and within seconds they were getting a new script prepared to send to me, along with a return box for the contacts that don’t fit. They still have to verify it with America’s Worst, who doesn’t answer their phone nor call anyone back, but it was such an easy process and I spoke to a human on the phone after the 2nd ring. Calling the actual store for America’s Worst will *only* get you an automated message asking you to leave your name and number to get a call back, I’ve had to go in the store physically to actually get answers/my order previously.

Now I see you can take an eye exam with your phone using an app for $20. I won’t be using an optometrist again as my eyesight hasn’t changed in 30 years of wearing glasses/contacts.

Great that you had that experience. Sad that it is now such a rarity. I’ve spent most of my working life in some sort of customer service business. The sad state of CS is a huge pet peeve of mine.

My absolute best customer service experience ever is the Finnish tax office. They did a great job answering all my questions in a very clear and easy to understand manner. At least I'm getting something for those damn high taxes!

I hope you have better luck with your eyes than I do. I just want to say it can be worth it to see a doctor in person for your eyes. My eyesight hasn't changed much either but my retina and other parts of my eye sure have.

Fortunately things are being kept in check and whatnot but still, things that would have not been caught through a remote visit I imagine.

Regardless, I'm glad 1-800 contacts is taking care of you 😀

Sounds like a much different experience than when I went through an audit with the IRS here in the US. They tried to disallow my work mileage that was legitimately used as a write off. They wanted $12,000 additional from me to close out that tax year. We went back and forth for almost 3 years. I didn’t want to give them an additional dime. Their last offer was around $250. I just paid them to go away.

The US system is honestly pure insanity to me.

Here the tax office typically sends you "This is how much we think you owe the government, any corrections?" type form where you usually just want to add some deductions. All fillable online and about as easy as it gets.
