Everyone seems to be saying so, due to both AE and Gossow's instagram posts (and complete clearout of all past posts).
So, whilst it's not fully confirmed, it seems more than likely...

I got into Arch Enemy back when the Wages of Sin album had just been released, so I'm definitely happy to hear about this and don't think it's a bad thing at all.

Thoughts?

Loved Wages of Sin. Enjoyed some things here and there and Amott for me is like melo-death Schenker :satan Will be interesting to see where they go. It's probably a good move as long as Gossow still has the harsh pipes.

Yeah, it'd be nice for it to feel a bit more like the old times.
I don't think I've enjoyed anything recently released, everything just feels a bit sleepy and sort of 'template', rather than that glorious extreme raging melodic death metal that I used to know.

Last time I saw them was at Bloodstock about 10 years ago and I wasn't really that impressed either.

If Angela is back, I can't wait to hear what they cook up.

Interesting, rumours have also been rife for Mayara Puertas (Torture Squad) to take up the mantle . After this recent post.

Whichever vocalist they choose... I really hope that their musical direction moves a little more towards melodic death metal again. The last few albums sounded too much like power metal to me. I might as well listen to Sabaton. And my lifetime is too precious for that. The first few albums with Angela were great, but after that it just became very formulaic.

Yeah, agree. It’s been a bit stale recently. I have on my todo list to learn some songs off of Khaos Legions. Might be time to look into that!

I must've been living in a bubble late 90's-early 2000's because I'm not familiar with any bands you all have been bringing up lately.

Andy Sneap did a lot here, you might know of his work.
Worth checking out his work in mixing/producing back then.

I am familiar with him, although didn't know his full body of work. There's just sort of a metal gap (newer bands at the time starting near 2000) in my brain. I blocked a lot of modern music out in a certain time frame because most of it didn't appeal to me, but mainly because I was deep-diving more into 60s-70s style music, or alternate stuff like fusion, jazz and blues.

Yeah I totally get that. I did quite a bit of journeying away from metal not too long after so I have to constantly play catch up on all the more recent metal genres and trends.

bet they do both, few months of tour and festival dates with angela for quick $$$ and then another shitty new AE record with a new vocalist just to keep the franchise going

If I had to bet that would be my #1 pick.

Loved Khaos Legions and generally everything with Gossow. With Alyssa... well, she was very good and nice to look at but the music did not give me much. Might not be Alyssa's fault, as guitar/main songwritinf is not her part here (I guess - I don't know).

she's just got zero charisma or style as a vocalist or performer. angela was an absolute monster, you could be at the back of a 2000-seater and she was in your face. alyssa's doing all the things technically fine, but brings nothing to it, and that's death when the songwriting's gotten so bland too. comparison: amon amarth can make totally mailed-in albums and they're still ok because johan is such a great frontman, he's got the charisma to carry the whole thing.
