Apparently, TOP is going to be used for AI training and your metadata will be removed from your creative works?

Apparently, VerticalScope (horrible company, from what I'm reading) is now claiming they have the right to your work as a means to train AI/LLM. Pretty awful move, which based on Reddit posts about VerticalScope, seems pretty onbrand for them. It's pretty crappy if they think they will be using this TOS update retroactively, as well. Glad I do not post my creative work on TOP. This applies to SS.org as well, I think, given that this was a company wide thing, and SS.org is owned by them.

Any thoughts?

Oh helllll no….

I mean, I’m already quite certain that everywhere I’ve posted my music has some tiny language written in the fabric that’ll fuck me over at some point, but I’m not going to willingly keep stuff posted up at SS.O for it to be sucked up by the Matrix bot.

And without even consulting the other owners on this, I think it’s pretty safe to say that kind of shit won’t be happening here.

The VerticalScope team has had shady bullshit dealings in the past that've killed forums (Wheeler4x4 being one of them, or something like that). Good luck with getting your music deleted from TOP if you've posted any there as well as SS.Org

Is any site really safe from that though?

Yes and no.

AI bots are scraping content wherever they can, but after this post I did some digging around and on the admin side of things there’s some language we can put in our policy that forbids the practice of AI scraping user content (I passed it along to The Colonel and David Lo Pan).

The thing I don’t like about it is that there’s no real way of knowing if it’s happening or not. We can put the language in there and assume it’s working, but there’s no legit way of knowing if we’ve been scraped or not. And unfortunately, it seems this AI shit will be a series of letting cats out of bags to find out what kind of damage they can do first, then I suppose there’ll be some half-assed attempt at shoving said cat back in said bag, which we all know is going to be an exercise in futility.

And not to mention, a lot of hosting sites are already AI'n your content up unless there is specific ways to opt out as a user. Either way, the data is out there and keeping nefarious acts from happening is futile as you say.

Thanks for looking into this.

Even though I am 100% sure no AI bot is scraping my music (because I share so little online), I support any and all means of pushing back on the practice.

Thanks.
