I remember an album cover - or gatefold artwork - from my dad's vinyl collection from when I was a kid. I asked ChatGPT to generate something based on what I remembered, and it really does resemble what I remember:

But does anyone know the original out of interest??

- Kind of a humanoid centurion type figure, with a horned helmet. The horn comes off to the side, and points down.
- Either washed out or glowing eyes, with a look of surprise or slight sadness to him.
- Background was a red to yellow wash I think. Possibly with hills and mountains in the background.

My dad had a wide and varied collection, so I can't really nail down the genre or anything. All I can say is, it would have been some time between the 70's and mid 90's that the album came out. Might have also been gatefold artwork.

Hell... for all I know, it isn't an album at all. Could also be a book or something. But I have a very strong memory of constantly skipping past this one record in my dads collection, coz as a kid it scared the living shit out of me!

Molly Hatchet.

Never heard a lick of the stuff (except maybe on the radio) but I always thought they had the coolest cover art when I was a kid.

No idea. But here are some suggestions from ChatGPT based on your image and description.

  • Molly Hatchet — Molly Hatchet (1978)
Frank Frazetta’s “Death Dealer”: warrior with downward-curving horns and a fiery orange/brown backdrop. Eyes aren’t glowing, but the helmet/pose and palette are spot on.
  • Molly Hatchet — Flirtin’ With Disaster (1979)
Another Frazetta piece (“Dark Kingdom”): horned-helmet barbarian, rocky hills/mountains and a warm orange sky.
  • Scald — Will of the Gods Is a Great Power (1996)
Epic-doom reissue art shows a Viking-style helm with horns against a sunset/yellow-red landscape with low hills.
  • Eternal Champion — The Armor of Ire (2016)
Fantasy warrior with a horned helmet under a red/orange sky; mountains in the background. Face isn’t the focus, but the vibe is very similar.
  • Bathory — Blood on Ice (1996)
Viking warrior imagery, orange/yellow sky and mountains. Not glowing eyes, but close on the palette/setting.
  • Cirith Ungol — Forever Black (2020)
Michael Whelan art with a hellish orange wash and a horned/demonic visage with glowing eyes (less “centurion,” more demon).
  • Manilla Road — Open the Gates (1985)
Sword-and-sorcery cover art; horned/ancient warrior aesthetics and warm tones (less explicitly orange, but similar mood).
  • Wishbone Ash — Argus (1972)
A watchman in armor overlooking rolling hills with a yellow/orange haze. No horns or glowing eyes, but the background composition might be what you remember.

Nope! Sorry guys, none of those. I'd already gone through all of them via Google Images and ChatGPT - I'm not exaggerating when I say I've been trying to find this cover on and off for over 10 years. :rofl
Don't give up.

Because i wont be able to sleep.

You'd be suprosed just how obscure some of the things from vaguest memories I've tracked down with chatgpt.

Even silly details narrow it. Decade, year (if you know what age you first remember it, it can cut albums off before that point, country it was sold in, vague type of music genre, even start narrowing it down by helmet with horns pointing down and only look at those, forget the landscape or backdrop.

BTW, you sure youre not blending a childhood memory with High on Fire's the black plot? Cuz...
