What strikes me as funny is that for everything he’s said about developing yourself as a guitarist/musician, he hasn’t really applied that to his vocals. I know he spent a couple years working on it in the mid-90’s but I think when he didn’t get the warmest reception to it he just figured singing would be something he did for fun rather than making it a bigger part of his musical career.
“Rescue Me Or Bury Me”, while I don’t dig all the cadence or lyrics so much, his delivery and technique are pretty great and he can emote enough to sound legit when he sings, which is like 90% of what people connect with when listening to a singer.
And this solo is fucking nuts. My dad used to tell me “He probably sped it up, Andy, don’t get your hopes too high you’ll be able to play like that if he didn’t even play it” (kind of a microcosm for my dad’s advice to me when it came to music, in general
