Always been a fan of spicy shit, saw someone on facebook selling some super hots so I jumped on it. Got 2 death spirals 2 apocalypse scorpions, a sugar rush peach and a lemon spice jalapeno. Have a couple run of the mill jalapenos going as well. Need to get everyone potted up and fertilized here asap. Looking forward to hopefully having a successful harvest

We grew some jalapeños years back and it was the weirdest thing. Some of them just tasted like a bell pepper, some would light you up.

I’ve noticed this even with grocery store jalapeños, spice levels seems to be all over the place

This A/C guy pulled up in a van to work on our outdoor unit one day, and he had two bushes full of peppers in the back. He said the last house he was at said he could keep them. He asked me if I wanted them and I declined, but he gave me way more than a handful of them.

So I have no idea where the truth lies in this but he says this was his grandmothers secret to hot peppers. She would grow them to the point of drought, then just give them a little bit of water so they would perk back up. Then let them go again to the point of withering, rinse and repeat. He said she grew the hottest peppers ever.

I think I heard something once about putting sulfur in the bottom of the hole before planting. They actually said a book or 2 of matches. Not sure if it was hot peppers or some other vegetable though. Also, something about epsom salt but you have to get the kind without additives for bathing.

I’ve got a good 10 to 12 weeks of sunshine and good weather left… Just ordered a ton of pepper seeds.

I’ll consider myself lucky

Some jalapeño plants on our deck .
We’ve done habaneros and Ghost peppers in the past like this…

Here's a fun story (at least in retrospect) ;~)) Must have been 35 years ago, maybe more. I was just getting into the hot foods. I was cooking a Mexican dinner with my sister and I was dicing up some jalapeños. Had to take a leak ;~(( Rinsed hands, went into bathroom, took a leak, came out, started chopping again and then my eyes popped out of my head like a cartoon character as the "spice" tingled on my wedding tackle! It just got worse and worse, and water did nothing. I did not know at the time about dairy products being the way to stop such burn, so I suffered for about an hour!!!

Now keep in mind, I did not eat any pepper with my dick, but it is the oil that covers the seeds and the capsaicin that are the hottest part of a pepper. Not the seeds nor the meat of the pepper (though those parts can still have heat, just not like the oil). So that oil is what was on my hands, and rinsing hands before bathroom did pretty much nothing! LESSON LEARNED the hard way on a soft sausage!!!!!!

My wife is an avid gardener and has a large variety of hot peppers - off the top of my head carolina reapers, trinidad scorpions, bhut jalokias, poblanos, thai chilis and maui purple . The bhut jalokias are probably the best combination of extreme heat and flavour and go great in a hot sauce.

The drummer in my band used to bring a little sandwich bag with some bhut's in it to add to just about everything we ate on tour. Fearless in the face of danger!

We had some chilis (don't remember what variety) growing one year before moving. They turned out pretty great, just the right amount of spice. We are planning to plant some next year.

Pickled jalapenos are a staple in our house.

I generally don't care for the mega spicy stuff where it's more hurt than flavor.
