Amp connected with attenuator

Hi everyone,

I bought an SPL Reducer and I have a question before using it:

My speaker cable is the following: https://www.ernieball.com/guitar-accessories/instrument-cables/speaker-cables#P06071

Here are the specs:

99.95% oxygen-free copper for corrosion resistance

Dual-conductor 1.2mm diameter signal wire

Durable PVC jacket for long-lasting performance


Now I’ve just read that the diameter might be too small to safely use with the SPL Reducer. (according to the spl guide 1.5mm2 is the optimal)

My amp is a 50-watt Marshall JCM 800 clone (a 100% accurate reproduction).

I’d like to ask whether this cable is safe to use with my setup, or should I rather buy a different one?

You'd "probably" be fine, especially considering the short distance, but I've always heard you're better off with 12 gauge (American AWG).

What cable are you using from SPL reducer -> cab though? Or do you have two of those speaker cables?
 
Sixteen gauge will be perfectly fine for a three foot run that is only handling 100 watts or less. It’s longer runs (10 feet and up) where larger gauges are advisable.
 
1.2 mm diameter is close to 16 AWG and is perfectly fine for that amp and shorter runs up to 3-4 meters. 3 feet is fine.

12 AWG is overkill for most speaker cable runs unless you are using cables that are long, or are running a 2 ohm load or less. Low ohms means higher current, and that's what is more important when picking a cable size.
