Do I have this right .... in theory will

-> running a 48K Plugin with 2 x Oversampling

have he same amount of aliasing as

-> running a 96k Plugin with no Oversampling

(?)

yes (assuming the plugin doesn't internally downsample to some lower rate and then do it's non-linear procesing.)

So that gets me thinking - again in theory - given the same PC / Laptop - is the CPU load the same when running a 48K Plugin with 2 x Oversampling as running a 96k Plugin with no Oversampling ?

That's gonna be very specific to the plugin and what it does.

For example, you could have a plugin that does a bunch of linear stuff and then only oversamples for the non-linear portions. In that case, the CPU load wouldn't be the same between doing oversampling only for the non-linear parts vs increasing the native host sample rate for all of the plugin's processing.

Yep, I think that’s why the major vendors are not running at 96 or higher. It wastes processing for little benefit.
