Acoustic guitar option paralysis - NGD Incoming

I just traded my Martin OM-28V for a nice Les Paul. It was a guitar I thought I would never sell but there you go. The fact is that when I go out of the house to jam acoustic I grab my old beat up Taylor 214ce. It does all of the things and I don't have to worry about a super expensive guitar getting stolen or destroyed. I have had many acoustic guitars from high end to utility prices like the T214. would say start with something that works and go from there.

I had a Taylor 314 which I thought I'd never sell but I stopped doing acoustic gigs and hadn't used it in a few years
I needed cash to move my family back to N Ireland so it went in the great gear cull of 2021. I should probably get another one but just fancy trying something new.

I broadly prefer dreadnoughts but a friend has a Martin OM-28 that is an absolute monster. I still prefer my HD-28v.

The Eastman 20 (and 10 series really) were punching WAY above their weight but post Covid prices have continued to rise at least here in the states where they are no longer miles away from their competition’s pricing. I’m particularly a fan of their models using red spruce/Adi tops but that’s not everyone’s vibe.

I’ll echo that you’re best bet is to get your hands on a bunch, pick the one you can’t leave without.

I played some Eastman guitars a few days ago and tbh loved the E10SS in sunburst. I had my heart set on trying an OM though and that's what I hopefully have on the way. I'll spill the beans with pics once I know it was definitely in stock and they ship it. I think Andertons are open tomorrow again.

I've never bought an acoustic blind before but it was such a good price I thought I'd risk it.

I have an Eastman E2OM, their lower end OM model. I think it can handle strumming well, but won’t have the bigness of a dreadnaught. Fingerpicking sounds clear on the E2OM.

Which OM model did you end up going with? I suppose we’ll find out with a NGD.

I'll update the thread with pics once they've shipped it.

Think I'm going to get a really nice acoustic this coming year. Something special.

I've missed having an acoustic. I hadn't realised how much until I started doing some acoustic gigs with the singer from my band. I'm using a borrowed Guild for those at the mo. Fingers crossed the one I've ordered will keep me happy for a while.

Hope whatever it is works out for you!
I have an old Takamine dreadnaught that's been good, definitely a workhouse type acoustic. But I've been craving a really nice acoustic for a long time now, if the new year pans out well I'd like to get one. Probably a higher end Taylor most likely.

I've just had a shipping notification from Andertons, it should be here on New year's eve. I'll put my own pics up after I get it, fingers crossed I like it. I've never bought an acoustic sight unseen before but it was too good a price to pass up.

It's a used Furch Vintage OM Sitka and Rosewood. These are Anderton's pics from the listing.

Nice! I’m not usually into tortoise pickguards but that one looks nice with that top. Will be excited to read more about it once you have it in hand.

Awh, for Furch sakes! Congrats and enjoy ;~))

Oh man! Did it not show today, SO?? :idk

It did and I have some concerns. I'm going to sleep on it tonight but it's probably going back. One of the weird things is the COA is from a different guitar. It's the same model but the serial doesn't match this guitar.

I have some other concerns but had a kitchen disaster this afternoon which didn't put me in the best of moods to start with. I'm not sure if I'm being too harsh on it because of my shitty mood.

I'm going to sleep on it and play it again tomorrow but at the moment it's going back.

And yes I'm a dumbass for buying an acoustic I hadn't played.

Sorry Michael Caine GIF

Double Bummer. :(

But this allows you to get excited again, and one day arrive at a
better destination. :hugitout

Oh, and all of the best Acoustic guitars I have played/heard in my
life have oddly been Guilds. Weird. Even when I bought a J45 in
like 1998 I was haunted by the Guild I didn't buy. :idk

Ah man, that's too bad. Hope you get it sorted out, and maybe sleeping on it (not directly lol) will clear it up.

Funny you should say that, the guild I have on loan at the minute is actually really great. Super comfortable and sounds lovely. It's not for sale unfortunately and probably outside my budget even if it was.

Please tell me you weren't trying to make oyster brownies!

I was making cinnamon rolls. It's a wonderful recipe but a serious investment of time. They didn't rise properly AND I managed to burn them! On top of that the cornbread I made with Chili for dinner was seriously lacklustre.

Yeah I think so but if I'm being honest with myself I'm almost certain it's going back. Even with new strings I don't think it will sound good enough to justify the amount I spent. Actually scratch that. The price I paid is irrelevant, I just don't think it sounds good enough. Period.
