ABY Pedal with no signal loss?

I need a pedal that will provide Y signal to two paths without losing any signal. Is this something that even the cheap boxes can do well?

Should I be looking for active or passive?

The cable runs are where the main loss comes from, though there are probably buffered ABYs available to offset that. Perhaps Radial makes one/

If you have a single hi Z signal (guitar) that goes into a Y box, how will it have the same voltage on both sides? Afaict, it would need to be active as you say.

Voltage will be the same because it's a parallel circuit. Current will be lower...but the whole point of having a high z signal is to keep current to a minimum.

This looks like what I need, for cheap.

Will a passive Y box have an identical signal on both outs compared to the input?
It all depends on what you are plugging into after the aby pedal - if it’s splitting to two amps your guitar is not running into a 1 Mohm input as usual, but into two 1 Mohm loads in parallel. That’s not the aby pedal adding coloration, it’s the different load.

Get the Lehle or a Gig rig.
Totally transparent,silent and bombproof.
Expensive but they do exactly what you want and will last forever.
Agreed.

Consider if it's worth paying less money and potentially having more headaches along the way, or spending the extra for a super robust, don't need to worry about it, lasts for decades box that solves problems.

I don't know about you, but my favorite pieces of gear are ones that I don't need to think about. They just do their thing.
