A New Practice Regimen (A Season Of Al Di Meola)

Nope. Not the eyes. The spectacles. Big difference.:geek:

Yeah, those first albums through Electric Rendezvous are my favorite both in tones and music style.

From what I’ve heard him say he sort of went through this phase after the shows with De Lucia and McLaughlin of not wanting to be seen as the old guy still playing rock with an LP through a distorted Marshall, and so he leaned more into the acoustic thing.

He's been all over the place since that period. Can tell hie is definitely a restless spirit
who is not into repeating himself.

I bet his health scare in 2023 really made him rethink that electric period from those
first 3 too 4 albums. Because here in 2024 all of his live shows are highlighting that
period. He's doing material from that period he has never played live before.

I should have gone and seen him when he was around. :facepalm

I’m excited he’s embracing his electric albums more these days!

I was a little disappointed that 24 wasn’t more electric focused. It would have been a great opportunity to come out with a new electric album!

Maybe he’ll do one next

There's some killer live footage of the recent Tour on Youtube. The whole show
is nothing but material from those 1st 4 Albums. :chef

and

The first show of the Tour.

Tells some great stories, too. Like his Dad not believing him when Al told
him was going to play Carnegie Hall with Weather Report/Chick Corea for
the first time. :idk

He’s going to be here in a couple months and I’m not missing it!

I heard him say something about finding his old LP Custom in storage and then digging around more and finding one of his 50w Plexis, plugging them in and remembering what a great sound that is. I think that played a role in inspiring him to revisit the electric stuff as well

Awesome. Probably the last chance to see him focus so exclusively on the
Early/Electric Years. :idk

I've been chasing that tone on my FM3 with various LPs for a few months now.

Pretty sure his Volume on the LP is rolled off most of the time. It's definitely not
hitting the preamp hard on Casino and Elegant Gypsy as hard as what you hear
on Land Of The Midnight Sun. And when he does open up the guitar all the way
you can hear it an instant. But yeah, that super dry and percussive thing is so cool!

The percussive quality he gets on those palm muted single note lines is :chef

So impressive how clean and precise he is with those!
