50th anniversary Nevermind The Bollocks JCM800

I know for sure that Jones, Cook and the estate of Sid Vicious still own it. Not sure about Lydon. There was a court battle about it but I don't remember what happened.

It would be even funnier if everyone but Lydon is getting a cut. :ROFLMAO: That would be classic Sex Pistols shit lol

Lydon gets a share of royalties and merchandising. The court battle was about licensing. Lydon didn't approve of the Sex Pistols miniseries; he didn't want the music used. There was a prior agreement that those decisions would be made by a majority vote, not by unanimous consent. The judge upheld the agreement and ruled Lydon could not veto the use of the name or music if Jones, Cook, and Sid's cousins were in agreement. I am sure he is not thrilled about the Marshall.

Kinda funny to think about that early punk scene; it was commoditized before it even blew up. You had Stewart Copeland realizing that punk was the way to make money, which gave us the origin of The Police and then the manager of the Sex Pistols knowing if he put the right group of people together, he could create what they became.

It wouldn’t be surprising to me if Lydon let on at the end of his life that it was all an act the whole time, a calculated plan that worked exactly how they figured it would after learning from The Monkees while seeing the punk scene grow in England.

Nothing screams punk rock like corporate branding. This is why rock ‘n roll is truly dead.

I would argue that punk rock is the most fashion conscious/fashion conservative of the music genres, even more so than metal. Corporate branding is the logical conclusion there.

That was bloody crazy. The guy outs a paedo, gets banished from the bbc forever while the paedo gets kept on primetime for the next twenty years. Fucking mad

I hate to say it, but I think people just aren't nearly as concerned about that actual reality of child sex abuse as they like to let on. I think we've seen that demonstrated many times in my rather short lifespan.

Edit: since this is in amps section, awesome amps. I'd rock one.

I don't know the whole story around these guys. But what you say sounds on par for most legacy media, unfortunately.

Malcolm McLaren put the band together to sell clothes from his London shop. The early gigs he booked for The Sex Pistols were nothing but very loud fashion shows. He later did the same for Adam and The Ants, Bow Wow Wow and the New York Dolls. The outfits he put on The New York Dolls have been credited for killing the band's popularity and ending the band. American audiences did not like the all-red communist motif Malcolm came up with for the band.

Side note: Chrissie Hynde worked as a clerk in Malcolm's clothing store and hung out with the Pistols
