Mostly just solo along to tracks with a pretty high gain tone. Lots of legato.
Currently using an open back and wonder if I'm losing a bit of the immediate attack of the note, but worried a sealed box would be too focused in such a small space.
Ported would simply be too much bass/low mids is my guess.

Any of those would work, it comes down to preference. I have had convertible cabs where some sounded best closed and others open.

My current small room cab is the ported, tiny 1x12 BluGuitar Nanocab. Because its dimensions are barely larger than the speaker itself, it doesn't have a lot of low end so I just compensate by turning up the bass on my amp quite high.

What type of flooring?
Any windows in the room?
Vaulted ceiling or flat?
Is the current open back cab pine?.

I’d go closed back with a removable center
slab back piece.
Ya’ kinda gotta get open back cabs in that sweet spot which sometimes is on the loud side or encourages unwanted rumbling.
For some weird reason, when you mentioned “immediate attack”,
-I thought of Bare Knuckle Pickups🙃
