.. from out of this list :

Neumann® U47
Neumann® M49
Neumann® U67
Neumann® U87
AKG® C414

Judging by how the C-37A is described, none of those are close.

"Flaunting its unconventional 6AU6 cathode-follower design, the Sony C-37A didn’t sound anything like the U 47, the C12, or the U 67; but it had an ace up its sleeve — a couple of them, in fact, in the form of two frequency dips that could tame and finesse strident sources with aplomb. Together with its soft, rounded low end, these dips (centered approximately around 1kHz and 7kHz) gave it a richer, darker tonality for an almost ribbon-like smoothness that worked wonders on thinner soprano-range voices and instruments. "

So you hav to pony up the $10k for an original... :D

Actually, the Mojave Audio MA-37 is a much better mic

At least it's less than half the price of a Sony :)
Yeah.

I'm looking at the impulse responses I have - trying to figure out if any are close to that Japanese mic.

It's just a "room mic" in the context I'm using anyways, so no biggie.

Sounds like something like a ribbon room mic IR might be closer maybe.

IIRC Daniel Lanois likes those mics - used them on his own vocals, Peter Gabriel, and Emmylou Harris among others.

A weird thing about them is the polar pattern selector. You physically turn it, and it opens or closes ports behind the diaphragm to make the capsule omni or cardioid.
