For a single cut around $500, I’d definitely go with a PRS SE.

I’d bump that budget up a bit and spring for a Charvel or something like that from Pro Audio Star. Fantastic deals on some fantastic guitars…

Newer MIM fenders still occasionally show up under $500. The Epi “Inspired by Gibson” stuff is fantastic and can often be had new for under that threshold as well.

What exactly are you looking for in a guitar? I have a used player plus MIM I just bought for $650 6 months ago, so I would assume that would be the ballpark still. I also have a Epiphone ES-335 Custom Shop, that is very nice now after a little fret work I did myself. I think I spent around $400 for it new about 3 years ago. Right now you can get something similar in that $500-$750 range.
