Bah. I gotta set the wife and I up for a Vegas trip. She leaves this stuff up to me and I am terrible at it but she's even worse. I plan for us to stay at the Hilton Grand on the strip. Seems like the best bang for the buck. Any advice on going to and what to do in Vegas ( other than eat and gamble?) is much appreciated. It'll just be a long weekend type thing. Better Hotels for the same money? Etc Etc..yada yada

You have to go to the Heart Attack Grill :D

I like to stay on Fremont St. when in Vegas. Staying on the strip is just too long of a walk to get elsewhere for me, or dealing with the traffic. On Fremont St. you can just walk out the door and have bands, restaurants, gambling, shows (I often head to the strip for many shows though), etc. right there. I often stay at the California hotel (1 block off Fremont), but also have had no problems with the Golden Nugget where I stayed last time. I always eat at Hugo's Cellar steak house in the Four Queens hotel on Fremont St. when I am there. Great old school steak house experience. It is where the Rat Pack used to hang! You lady will get a rose upon entry!! For a good low key "non-casino like" corner bar experience, just after the end of the "Fremont St. Experience" there is a bar called the Griffin that has an excellent selection of beer, booze and the jukebox is one of the best stocked boxes I have ever seen! They often have bands on the weekends, but I have never experienced any of those shows in the back room but I did drink there nearly every night that last few times I have been to Vegas. Heartbreaker guitars is cool, but you need to make an appointment and it is about a 10-15 minute drive/ride from Fremont st. Also, next to Area 51 just off the strip, there is a distillery called "Lost Spirits Distillery". I thought it was a really cool experience. You tour the distillery, and there are different types of shows in different rooms of this warehouse. Cabaret, aerials, mind reader, comedians, etc. As you travel through the experience at your own pace, you sample their different offerings. One of the owners used to design carnival props and facades, and he has done a great job on the stuff he has built here!

WOW! This is the stuff I'm looking for. I am sure wifey would love all of that. Me I couldn't care less if I'm on "The Strip". I didnt even know about this Fremont st. She's been to Vegas a few times and on the strip. I never have. Thanks so much. I am actually gonna print this out.

been there a bunch of times. i would only go back for a good concert at this point.

i think if you get outside of the city there are places where you can drive exotic cars on a track. that would be fun. there are also gun ranges where you can shoot full on automatics which sounds cool. not much on the strip sounds very entertaining in terms of gambling.

Years ago my wife and I saw Tom Jones in Vegas, don't laugh, even at 105 years old that guy can still belt it out. Seriously though, Yellow Brick Road is an awesome band, so is Lon's Band (if you like horns). For a more down to earth biker bar kind of atmosphere check out The Backstop in Boulder, I did a lot of gigs there, it's kind of a really cool place.

I have heard great things about the Rock Vault that La Szum mentions above, but I have not yet experienced it. Be sure to check out who is playing at the House of Blues when you are there (it is located in the Mandalay Bay hotel on the strip). Carlos Santana will be doing his residency there on Sep 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15, 16, 17 and Nov 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12. Don't know if you are into him or not, but I saw him there in 2019 and it was a great experience. Also the Neon Museum is pretty cool. It is about a half mile walk from Fremont St. and is an outdoor "neon graveyard". Lots of old classic signs that were retired with stories to go with them. Tim Burton did a installation there of some new artwork/concepts a few years back and that made it even better. We usually see at least one Cirque Du Soleil or cirque like show while there (we go for the shows and food, we are not gamblers). If I think of anything else, I will post again. Oh, and BTW, the Heart Attack grill is at the end of the Fremont St. Experience, about half a block away from the Griffin bar I mentioned ;~))

I just thought of another thing that I find fun to do in Vegas. On the Stratosphere tower (aka The Strat Hotel), they have rides on the top of the tower. SCARY stuff if you are into that kind of thing. You are already 1149 feet in the air, and then you are being thrust even higher (called the Big Shot) or being thrown out over the edge towards the ground (and then abruptly stopped of course - called the X-Scream). I will definitely do it again next time I am there. Last time I was there the rides were closed due to windy conditions ;~(( They used to have a small roller coaster, but I never had a chance to try that one and it is gone now from what I understand.

Great thing about Reno is, escaping to the mountains is a short drive! Quick relief when it gets too hot!!

I'll put up $100 that a stop at a Kum & Go in Reno is going to be odder than anywhere else
in the contiguous United States. That place has more vacant eyes than any other place I have
ever been to. It's like Non-Fiction X Files.

Yeah, to those in the EU there really is a gas station chain called "Kum & Go." :rofl

The only time I ever went on a Ferris Wheel I passed out. I can't do heights at all.
