Valeton versus Axe FX

It's funny to think that if someone did that with a tube amp and the Axe-fx some here would be throwing a fit. :beer

I highly suspect that the OP's video is a nod/response to the following video ;-)
spoiler alert: no cricket sound here ... well it depends what sounds like crickets for you

Well, seems to be more like answering the question "can you make the FM3 sound as bad as the GP-5?"

Seriously, while some of the amps in the GP are astonishingly good, most aren't. The drives are "servicable" at best and act in no way as *any* real drive pedal, let alone the ones they're supposed to model.
Whatever, if you want to get the most out of the GP, you need to look for some NAM captures. They work pretty well even with that additional import conversion on top.

On a sidenote: I have a kinda feeling that some of the modeling in the GPs isn't better because these guys have no taste. Sure, you would think that's not what things are about when you go for accurate modeling - but apparently any decisions you could still make with your ears take a wrong turn in Valeton land.
Why am I suspecting that? Well, there's IRs and captures preloaded on the unit - and they're all pretty awful IMO. Same goes for the factory presets.
Still an incredible pedal for the price - but comparing it to things such as whatever FAS units has got to be a joke.

It'd be interesting to know what the relationship with Hotone vs Valeton is. Same company, but are they totally separate teams that don't work together at all?

Because I feel Hotone did a pretty good job with most of their effects on the Ampero 2 Stomp. The drives were a mixed bag between "I can't tell any relevant difference between the real pedal" and "that's totally wrong". But the delays and reverbs were solid and modulations fine if a bit unremarkable.

No idea how much ressources they actually share.

I think the Amperos are much better units overall, but with the GPs, the form factor, functionality and price relation is just great.
