For those that don’t know, the Snorkler was originally a mod Reinhold did on JCM800’s, most famously used on AIC’s Facelift and Dirt albums. I know it’s on Jane’s Addiction’s Nothing’s Shocking and probably a couple other popular ones around that era. I was just asking around this week if Bogner was still doing any mods to see if I could get my Shiva modded into a Snorkler. This is a holy grail amp for me and I could probably say the same for @PLX

Awesome! Not trying to turn an awesome amp discussion into digital but one super unique model on the Amperium was the JCM800 with selectable snorkeler mod. Was a killer model so I expect the real amp is fantastic

Also are you going to snag one of these, Drew?

We’ll see. Recent weather events have me considering how much longer I want to gamble living down here.

Come hang out in NC (not much better but slightly!). I'm assuming you'd move back to the NE tho

Yeah, at this point I'm too old for "jump into a new state and start all over again....for the 6th time", mom is getting older and I'd like to be a part of my nephew's life more than I am now, I can be in a band with my best friends since I was 11 and kind of set life on coast moving back up there.

I copied Ronnie Champage's old post from year's ago and have transferred it over to every computer-
"...i know this is a really old thread,i just came across it...my name is Ronnie Champagne i was the engineer with Dave Jerden Producing on Facelift...i am the owner of the Snorkler...that we used for most of the guitar and some six string bass tracks on the album Facelift...its a Marshall 50 watt jcm 800 combo 4010 that i had Bogner modify for me...4-12ax7a tubes and el34's for power...i got in Canada in '83 as a trade for a 50 watt half stack that i didnt want to carry to the states when i moved to L.A. in '84...i was using Andy Brauer rentals in n.Hollywood for most of the gear we used on Janes Addiction's Nothings Shocking and Andy turned me onto a Bogner Modified jcm 800 that Rheinhold had modded...apparently he did a few...for Eddie and Steve and Joe...well i had the same amp and took it over to Rheinhold and asked him to do exactly the same thing to mine...he refused... saying that he was trying to launch his own product...i told him i didnt care how much it costs and that my clients would send him a ton of business,to which he capitulated,grudgingly....good move i'd say!this is the nastiest amp ive ever played thru...you are correct that we used a 4x12 with greenbacks in a stairwell all knobs on ten for solos...but we also used it in various settings for a multitude of overdubs...using a shure sm57 into a neve 1073 into a la-2a compressor/limiter to the tape machine...i also used it on Janes Ritual,Social Distortion,Deconstruction with Dave Navarro and Eric Avery from Janes....and many other records worldwide...plus i toured Europe with it as my main amp...we also used Bogner Ecstacy(?) and Fishes with Navarro....none had the totally full on brazen tone though...it is THE platinum amp, priceless to me(Jerry offered me big cash for it,but i aint no dummy!)in fact the last time i hung out with Alice(new guys) in Boston he still was complaining and wanting....as a side note i also used a R.K.Butler TubeDriver pre amp into a vintage Fender Bassman for many of the 'mellower' tones and also my pink Kramer Baretta 1 with a Ultrasonic 3 pickup(single and humbucker modes) plus a lot of Telecaster drop D tuned...the Snorkler responds unbelievably to single coil pick ups...we also used a Coral elecric sitar (amazing!) thru it...plus the six string bass for chorus's on many tracks...ala the Who....the Snorkler logo is from an old fire extinguisher i found in Hollywood...plus its a reference to blow snorters...my assistant attempted a clone of it but for some reason the o.g. still kicks its ass...ive a/b 'd it to most of the Bogner amps and this puppy is a boutique slayer...i also had some minor alterations done to it by the Professor in Seattle, mostly grounding and switches etc and he built me a new enclosure,i got the vox fabric from Jackson Brown....oh ya i used a KK Audio 1x12 cabinet with an ev 250 12L speaker(totally killer!)for most of the tracking....if y'all have any questions feel free to e-mail me at (removed)...i love chatting gear!but i live to play it!!!!Ronnie C.

I can agree with this.
As a young gun, my #1 influence was Dave Navarro.
Jane’s stuff was the first music I learned the riffs, the keys, the flashy but RAD guitar runs and the animal sounds during solo’s- smoldering leads with KILLER gnarly wah pedal flavor of the vibe’s.
Much like Diamond Darrell.
I can TOTALLY hear the snorkler on “Had A Dad”.
The way the huge G chord rings out with that low-mid raunch…
Stephen Perkins is so underrated.
He’s a collection of all my favorite drummers.
Lotta Keith Moon in that dude!
Navarro did a great job bro’ing down Perry Farrell when Perry threw a punch at him.
Like “dude chill, I know your toasted, it’s cool but don’t be trying to punch me mid-song with my guitar on stage”…

Is this the amp where the dude on RT was selling single Kemper profiles of it with some sort of "copy protection" scheme for $40-$50? :wat:rofl

Very curious to hear if these ACTUALLY sound as good as people claim. The association with AIC counts for a LOT but IMO the more recent AIC tones sound much better, and most audio I've heard of the Snorkeler mod sounds quite midrangey.

Always had the impression the reason it wasn't a production amp was because Reinholds other circuits just sounded better. Looking forward to seeing once and for all, either way, itll be a nice pay day for all concerned, and a cool amp for collectors to actually be able to get hold of.

hmm, yeah all a bit middle of the road to me. If it wasn't called a Snorkler (with the associated history) or made by Bogner I'd be swerving this.

quite compressed (almost like it has a sat switch engaged), midrangey/chewy where it limits how gainy you can go with it. Almost like a distortion pedal kind of distortion....

weird that we never heard the treble past 5 there, and the presence was kept quite low the entire time. Not really much high gain/AIC style riffs in that video.

Edit: just as a comparison, I wouldn't say this is anything special from Blake but I'd take this stock 800+boost all day long
