I saw that Tour. 1987. Yngwie was the opener.

Somewhere in Time is Maiden's answer to Priest's Turbo. I think that
Maiden won that period with a more skillful use of the Synth guitars,
and that era's super-processed guitar tones.

As much as I like this album the guitar tone is horrible. Sounds like its buried or the amps are under a blanket. Still love this album though. Great stuff.

Piece of Mind is still my favorite though.

Maybe it’s that horrendous reverb.

Edit - yeah, i think that’s it. Overproducing and layered effects got out of hand during that era, i think.
