I'm in MA, so am expecting a pretty big pile of snow over the weekend. I'm quite thankful that we'll be missing out on the freezing rain. When I lived in Oregon we had a few substantial freezing rain events where we lost power for more than a week, so I know what that can be like.

I'm wishing all you folks the best of fortune as the storm passes through.

Feel for you man, good luck and stay warm! I went to college in Oregon, and it NEVER snowed in town, always freezing rain - the worst!!!

I am in the 8-12 band, but I am also in Western NY where 8-10" of snow is a minor inconvenience. Good luck to those who will be harder hit, especially in areas where you aren't as prepared to deal with it!

I’ve lived in relatively miserable enough winters (Northern IL) before relocating to Columbus, so I have seen some pretty lousy snowstorms in my lifetime.

We’re in the 11-13” band at the moment. While I’ve seen worse, it’s not gonna suck any less. I always have, and always will hate winter.

I’m on call for my job this weekend, which pretty much means that if I have to take any dispatches after noon tomorrow, I have the option of saying “C ya Monday, maybe Tuesday…”. Heh.

~8" predicted, followed by freezing rain on Sun. I'm fine with the snow, but too much ice worries me. I'm in the woods, off a power line that only serves me, and there are a few trees up above the line that if they were to break, could hit the line on their way down. Crossing my fingers.

I went through an ice storm in 93. Power was out for a week, nothing to do but stare at the wood stove. Area looked like a war zone afterwards. I walked the neighborhood, and it was eerily quiet, until you heard a branch crack, then crash down. Weirdest weather I ever experienced.

It's just really cold here. We don't get as much snow as they do closer to the lake. They canceled school today bc of the temps but the roads were actually way worse the previous two days. Def a colder and snowier winter than the last few so far at least.

No snow in Northern WI from this storm, but the high today was -7 with -40 windchills, so there's that.

Moved back here from the desert in '21 and haven't regretted it until this winter.

I hope you’re well stocked on firewood and food. Stay safe!

Ahhhhh every damn year in New England I’d fall at least once and question if my tailbone were intact for a minute or two while being twice as angry because I was walking carefully and still busted my ass.
I think I've finally learned, there is no "walking carefully" when on ice. I thought I was being careful, yet I still ate it. :bonk

I busted my fret-hand knuckles on the frozen snow buildup from my truck's tires, but what made me scream in agony was how my right leg fully flexed. I have some arthritis in that knee, and FUCK that hurt!! I suppose I'm lucky I didn't break my fucking wrist.

And then, I wouldn't have wanted anyone to see this: I had the hardest time finding a solid foothold, so I could GET BACK UP!! While in pain, of course. Then being utterly terrified I'd fall again on my way back to the house, since I'd grossly underestimated the danger.

Ice is no fucking joke. I guess that's my karma for laughing at all the videos I've seen of people busting their asses walking out their front door.

I ended up getting right about 21 inches of snow from this storm. It took me 2.5 hours to snow blow the driveway. The temperature hasn't even come close to getting over the freezing point since then, so all of that snow is still sitting around in piles.

I know how it is in Oregon, I have relatives there and that ice is really dangerous. At least snow is prettier, even if there's a lot of it.
