String Theory - Ernie Ball - Steve Morse

Anyone know what's with his right hand when he plays fast? He's moving his entire hand, and I don't recall him always playing like that.

Plus, it's surprising, since it's inefficient. Or maybe I'd remembering his technique differently. But if not, I wonder if he's changed his motion due to the problems he's been having with his wrists. Which I can relate to.

It takes me a full hour of playing & stopping to relax until my hands loosen up, and they stop hurting (beginnings of arthritis & mild carpal tunnel.)

As far as I know he has always played like that.

(Edit I m a ding dong ...it's upon recommendation from a sports therapist....

Due to injury and arthritis......he has adapted his style to keep playing..... actually understand this a lot myself....so yeah )

Pretty sure he talks about it.....in this rick beato video ..not trying to start a fight.

There is this too. https://www.guitarplayer.com/news/steve-morse-arthritis-mod

When he was a guest artist at Vai Academy he talked about it.

He's damaged himself from too many years of playing a certain way.

It's sad and you can definitely see/hear the impact of his new technique - especially when he's playing older material.

Kind of sad. Age will fuck you up---even if you are a legend.

He was one of the kings of precision, and now sounds fairly sloppy
and imprecise to me. :hugitout

Yep. I can see it in other players too. Ones that are still amazing, yet if you go back to 20 years ago, you can tell there's a difference.

I mean hell, we were all at our peak in our 30's or thereabouts!

Yup. Physically anyways? What's that saying, "Youth is wasted on the young?"

I actually feel like we are in our conceptual and experiential prime in our 50s and
60s (and maybe beyond if some mental degradation is not happening). I can only
imagine what some would be capable of if a combination of physical and experiential
peaks were in synchrony---and not 2 to 3 decades apart from one another. :idk

Dude!! I have thought about that same thing!! I am definitely at my best right now, career-wise, but if I could marry that up with the physicality of my 30's, and my, 'damn-the-torpedoes' attitude of my teens, I'd be unstoppable!!

It was the old man in It's A Wonderful Life... "I said, why don't chya kiss 'er already?.... Ahh, youth is wasted on the wrong people!" :beer
