Give me the straight dope. Doe's this sound "assholish" or anything? I am not the greatest at getting my point across in typed words.

Well you’re clear of what you’re looking for. Area depending just don’t expect a flood of responses. You’ve already weeded out the town drunks and undesirables in your post so there goes 90% of the playing population. 9% of what’s left are busy already.

Cruel to be kind post here.

Just my humble opinion, but there's too much information here to scare anyone off who might be inclined. A reader might feel an exceedingly type A and bi-polar personality screaming through this ad. You're essentially saying you want two dudes to back you up in a let's get paid costume show. Doing it all your way. Then, in the end, you claim it all might just be a wet dream. That is contradictory to you saying you'll get it done.

Be short and sweet. Put your hook out there and see what fish you catch. Good luck.

This is exactly the kind of ad I’m looking for once I relocate. I have zero interest in the Gold Coast garage tour 2024 of endless rehearsals to play a 50 dollar bar gig.
I have one caveat to this ad though. Is this a group effort or are you the supreme commander? If this is a group effort with everyone imputing ideas towards the common goal, cool. If you’re calling the shots, you’re paying the bills so I’d want to know what the gigs pay and discuss my minimum.

Too wordy IMO. I'd leave more open to the imagination, gets people thinking about it, keeps people interested.

How I'd play it:

ZZ Top Tribute seeking Bass/Drums

I am a guitarist/singer with over 30 years of performing, live sound and booking experience, looking for a drummer and bassist to fill the roles in a professional ZZ Top Tribute. Aiming for high profile gigs; casinos, weddings, corporate events, etc.

"Turn on, tune up, and rock out"

Don't scare em away with too many deets

Hope you dont mind I copied and pasted your words LOL. 3rd repost today after getting flagged again for whatever reason.

Former bandmate?? Sounds like there may be a few out there. ;)

Oh, and good luck! I don't think there is a damn thing wrong with asking for what you want openly and honestly. Cut to the chase! :beer

Most likely. 2 of the 3 bands I quit had members that were pissed about it. The other one all said they understand and wished me luck. So who knows who it is. I do know it takes at least 3 separate flags to get a post removed.

Geesh! You are having quite the run, Bob. Might have to call in a Shaman to get that
bad Juju off of you.

Yeah story of my band life. I think I know my problem. I am always accommodating and going out of my way to make things easier and more comfortable for band members. I think a lot of folks mistake that for weakness and when I am straight with them about something they think I am being an a$$hole. The folks in the main cover band understand me and we all get along great. Havent had a single argument or disagreement over anything since we formed out here in close to 3 years now. We have had some dialogue over song selections but we ALWAYS work it out in minutes.

It reads a bit too close to the "5 years experience wanted for this software framework that has only existed for 3 years" type ads I see in my line of work. Namely putting way too specific requirements that there is either nobody or very few who can fill the needs.

I think you could simplify it but highlight that you are looking to form a professional gigging band, not a weekend warrior jam band. Then when you get some applicants who can do the playing part, you then say "Right, that's practice. Let's go to the back room for a beard fitting!"

At least you now know who you can't/don't want to work with. :beer

I bet you could get some great gigs booked with that Tribute act. Can charge a premium
and play the best rooms/establishments.

Yeah I actually used Alex suggestion verbatim and re-posted.

The short and sweet one is more effective. The conversation you have once they contact you can fill in all the other details and define expectations. Just a little suggestion in case you feel inclined to do it in conversation, but leave the ‘pipe dream’ stuff out. You don’t want to lay out all your experience and reasons you know you can make this happen then essentially throw it all out the window with ’we might end up just playing to ourselves in a rehearsal room” or something like that. Anyone you’re going to get in that band knows the possibilities that come along with that stuff, so it ends up just self-defeating more than anything.

I worked with a really great job coach a couple years back and he helped me see where things I thought were sarcastic or humorous came off as cynical and/or negative. In a personal setting it’s not as bad, but if you’re going for professionalism, it might be a good thing to keep in mind.
