So Tone Match. How much of a rabbit hole are we talking here?

Can't be that hard. It's just a block that makes an EQ-matching IR, right? Why not just give it a shot?

I know the concept. Just wondering if it's worth the effort given the ability to tweak as is. I'll need to snag that Suhr Reload if I plan on doing it myself.

Mesa Boogie Recto 1 Red, EL34 tubes. Come on, man. Finish the job. Tone match that BL, and see if you can get closer. :D

I’ve had really good luck with it. I did a Recto and BE-100 using my existing amps with the III models as the tone reference. I also matched the Helios 100 using the BE-100 as the reference. They are dead on copies of the amps tone.

It’s not hard to do and you can save the blocks for later but I’m not sure it‘s really worth it because the models in the III are fantastic on their own. It will also use up an additional block as the tone match block if you are worried about block count.

I figured you of all people had dipped your toe into that pool! Your Tone-X presets were great so I can only imagine the Axe stuff is killer as well \m/

The other thing is that if Fractal ever updates to Cygnus 2 or something else I think it will negate any of the tone matches you have because I’m assuming the Amps core tone would change?

I’m sure I’ll butcher this but… I think the tone match block is something like an EQ setting which “fills in“ the frequencies from the Amp block that are missing to match the reference tone. If the Amp block changes the core tone would be altered and the tone match block would not compensate correctly.

It really is interesting how little the tone match is used. I mean you can get any tone you want without it but still lol

I truly don't understand it either lol

Whew, yeah. That's pretty dang close. I think it's just creating tonematching IRs, which I've done manually for my Helix with iZotope Ozone's matchEQ, but the underlying model still has to be dialed in closely for the dynamics to sound right.

I'm 0 for 1 in terms of actually matching the tone, but it is interesting seeing what the Axe FX hears differently than me.
