I haven't been back since 2011, but it was fine back then. I walked everywhere those few days -- my wife had a conference at the Waldorf exact same time so it worked out great.
I have no reason to go back at all thankfully, I'm just over huge cities in general.

You can run into a problem anywhere. The issue here is you wont get out of the emergency room faster than your assailant is out of the police station and back on the streets to do it to the next person.
