Been a Fractal guy for years and haven't really ever recorded seriously without them. Sold all for something fresh and the Mark V:25 head I'm waiting on has a DI out to record with. I'm not doing anything pro quality, just futzing around at home with Garageband. Is the 2i2 still what everyone recommends for home hobbyist to do this with, or is there something much better for a similar price? Even it's more, if the quality is very good, I don't mind spending the money. Thoughts? And thanks!

I say you should buy an audio interface that is also suited for any future needs you have. The 2i2 is very barebones for features. 2nd and 3rd gen larger Focusrites can be had pretty cheap on the used market.

You could buy a used 2nd gen 4i4/6i6 or 3rd gen 4i4/8i6 for probably what a new 4th gen 2i2 costs.

The Audient iD and EVO range is also worth checking out. I like the EVO 8 a lot in terms of how dead easy it is to use and how compact it is.

Note that 4th gen is lit like a christmas tree with no option to turn off the leds.
God I hate this stupid rgb led trend, especially in professional gear which it has no reason to be in at all.
