Completely forgot about these pickups, but I saw that Wilde pickups are running a holiday sale. Checked the prices and they are honestly crazy low because they haven't raised prices in probably 15 years and some sets are 30% off on top of that.

Wilde pickups are the company started by Bill Lawrence after his name was trademarked. He did pickup design for companies like Gibson and Fender throughout the years, but has a lot of original designs. I've tried a couple sets and they were very bright and clear.

Thinking of picking up a set of the Micro Coil pickups for my Tele and/or Strat. Always wanted to try those out. They're a unique design with a really strong magnet and fewer winds of wire, so they are supposed to have strong output with low noise and extended frequency response. Seems kind of similar to the G&L MFD?

Anyways, a set of Tele pickups are only $75 plus shipping which is less than a single Suhr pickup.

Decided to just jump in and ordered a set each of the Tele and Strat micro-coils. Been wanting to try them since Bill first announced them 15 years ago. And getting two pickup sets that are hand made in the USA for under $200 shipped is crazy value.

Is this Bill & Becky ?

Yes, this is Becky and her daughter carrying on after Bill passed away years ago. So the true Lawrence pickups, that they sell under the "Wilde" brand.

I had a set of noiseless Strat pickups that were okay, and a set of the dual blade pickups that were also okay. I think the dual blade humbuckers would be a lot of fun to put in a guitar. I should get some of those for my PRS S2...

I called Becky and tried to order a pickup over the phone, some years ago..

She kept tryna tell me I wanted a different pickup than what I was trying to order.

Off putting - so I didn't place an order.

Yeah I had trouble working with her on email. Their products are confusing, and a decade ago there was barely any video. But I saw a bunch of good videos and comparisons made over the last couple years so thought I'd roll the dice.

My old pickups I ordered like 15 years ago were really high quality, Bill signed each of them on the bottom too. I think I wasn't a fan of their noiseless design, but always curious to try the single coils.

Also weird is; they flat-out refuse to tell you the DC resistance of their pickups..

They wanna tell you the inductance (H).

I put a set of L500XL's in the first partscaster I ever built, along with switches to split each pickup and connect both pickups in series. Still not enough output for my 16 year old gain obsessed self 🤣 That guitar got stolen so it's tempting to order a set of the L500's.

recent measurements:

L-500C 4.5 kΩ - 3.2 H
L-500R 7.1 kΩ - 4.8 H
L-500L 11.8 kΩ - 6.9 H
L-500XL 13.3 kΩ - 9.6 H

I have a Wilde L-500L and 500XL, the XL currently in one guitar, sounds killer!
Loved the alnico microcoils I had in a strat for a while, thinking of getting them back from a friend that doesn't use them anymore.
