NUX Amp Acadamy Stomp

If I were a beginner just starting out this unit would be a great place to start. It offers pro-level tones and is affordably priced. One of these along with headphones or a used solid state combo with a decent speaker and you’d be set. Grab a multi-modulation pedal to throw in the loop if you require modulation. I don’t personally. I don’t think you can find anything else at this price point that sounds this good or is even close really. I like the modeling better than my Hotone Ampero II Stage. I’d say it sits between the Ampero II and Fractal. I can not recommend it highly enough for those on a budget or starting out looking for “their” tone. This thing delivers.

I was eyeing on of these for a quick grab-and-go digital solution but the first batch sold out before I could.
I might just grab one & give it a go. Thanks for posting about it.

This thing just continues to surprise me. I’ll admit I’ve spent most of my time on the 5150 model and Friedman capture… they are so excellent IMO. These two showcase what this unit is capable in both realms.

I’d invite any subjective player who doesn’t mind a return if they aren’t happy to compare this unit to the Hotone Ampero II Stage or Stomp or to the Line 6 Stomp or equivalents. It’s better IMO.

Although I love my Axe-FX III MKII Turbo and FM3T so very much. I’m not sure I would have bought them had this product been available.

But, I’m a simple guy. I just need an amp, cab, delay and reverb tone. Add in EQ, NG, IR’s, Boost/Drives and an FX loop and midi and I’m good. My focus is on the core tone. If you need more… it’s out there. It’ll cost a bit more.

I can’t wait for the MG-30 replacement to be released by NUX in January. From what I see so far with the AAS, it’ll be one sweet sounding stage rig that’s affordable and sounds fantastic.

I hope NUX, Hotone, Valeton, ToneX and others continue to improve things on the capture front. To me it seems like modeling has the upper hand now but I’d like to see parity.

I’m still somewhat disappointed with the limitations of adjusting a capture via gain and EQ. It’s just not the same for me as with a model.
Finding the right capture is absolutely critical in achieving certain tones. It either works or it doesn’t. With an amp model, I feel it’s a lot easier to tweak it and hone in.

When we look back in 5 years, we will probably laugh about current gen capture tech. Kind of like you might do now if you compared your fractal stuff to the original pod bean. Framing optimistically, there’s a lot of potential.

I really enjoy being able to capture and share my amps with people. It kinda brings me back to the 90s when I was in school and friends would come over to check out cool new tones. That sense of community is unique I think.

Kinda like sharing patches is/used to be a thing. It is cool to share amongst each other… no doubt.

For some reasons I’m not quite certain of or clear on yet, I think captures may ultimately hold the upper hand there.

I will say that one thing that the Hotone Ampero II Stage offers that puts the Fractal and NUX units to shame is the touchscreen and an OS designed around it. There’s simply no comparison in ease of use and the sound quality is not far off. I doubt audiences or finished mixes in an A/B test would reliably land one way or another. I’ll say it again, commoditization is not far off in modeling and perhaps captures. Just like PC’s and Smartphones, it won’t be long before you get 98% of the performance for 50% or less of the cost.

Companies offering the top 2-10% of the difference will have a hard time charging 4-5X. But as seen here on the gear forum, some will gladly pay. Listen to them with a grain of salt.
