The first computer I started programming on (Gramps' Commodore VIC-20):

The first computer I owned and paid for with my own $ (it was around $2.5-3K IIRC) - IBM PS/2 Model 25:

... which after trying out for a few months, sold used to my buddy's older brother for close to what I had paid new, then upped my game to
a PS/2 Model 50z and 12" "high definition" monitor. :headbang

Oh, the memories... the hijinks... the 80286 10MHz... the 1.44 HD floppies... the CGA/EGA/MCGA 256 color (only at 320x200 res)... the Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards... the Pools Of Radiance... the Battle Chess...

My Grandma was a City Clerk/Municipal Accountant.

She was the only one I knew with a PC.
First one I remember using routinely, cannot remember the model exactly. Had to be an IBM ...amber monochrome display. I would sit for HOURS messing with midi music and playing midi files.....this was early 80s.

It was because of her that I developed a love for computers. Broke and fixed soooooo many computers for her over the years.

Still have her last PC, from 2009 ...but I converted it to a lite weight Linux build.....never use it.

What did you actually get though?

1st home computer was a Sinclair ZX-81 my Dad bought. I was programming FORTRAN, Pascal and Assembler on PDP-11's at school using virtual disks etc. at the time - long before I had to contend with silly little flat files on PC's, which I have always hated.

I have had to have some kind of Windows box at home - for work - for many years now, but run Linux for myself for a long time now.

Man we used to play Leisure Suit Larry every day when I setup my first recording studio. :beer
