Need advice (if this is even possible - controlling HX Stomp with Tonex via MIDI)

Hi everyone! I'm having a great time with my hx stomp and tonex combo - and I'm changing presets on the tonex using midi out from the stomp. At this point, I don't even touch the tonex pedal, the stomp is brains - and the three footswitches on the tonex are never used. This got me thinking - can I use those footswitches to send midi commands to the stomp? It's possible (obviously) to send midi commands from the Tonex, but I just don't know where to start (and I went through the manual)
