Hey fellas,I just took delivery of this
Zilla 2X12 Fatboy closed back cabinet with
Redbacks wired to 16ohm.

Dudes, Zilla Cabinets..gold premium service.
The prices after shipping & the exchange rate is right on point with everything else and maybe a bit cheaper,
-but not in build quality or tone.

What sealed the deal with me & Zilla was they don’t claim that they’ve reinvented the wheel.
They just build high quality, great sounding speaker cabinets that you can customize literally however you want it.
Paul is a solid dude.. he mentioned Ritchie Blackmore and the phone got silent..
He’s hired.

Cool story, when I placed my 1st order with Zilla for the 4X12 OS w/top slanted baffle/EVH Greens/large check cloth in red levant and I told him the cabinet will be matching my Lenz Hot Chili 100.
He said, “Oh we know Eddie, we make his headshells…”
I hear some typing & Paul pulls up on his computer the exact levant he used for Lenz’s Hot Chili headshells.l that he has in stock.
Straight DOPE!!!
Dude is a f’n “G”.

So here’s some photo’s of the pair,
I just installed those gun metal chicken heads..

I still tilted from how deliciously insane this match up is..
What’s rad about the Fatboy is it’s the cabinet is
actually the same width or fatness as a 4X12
at 14inches whereas many 2X12 cabs are
11/12 inches fat.
I usually go for the OS type of 2X12’s.
The Fatboy is shorter in height then the pack of
OS 2X12’s on the market.
However, this thing fills out much, much more then a Bogner OS 2X12 while being focused with a hue of break-in give which is HUGE dudes!!!!
Much less compressed & feels really great.
Aesthetically,
I chose to “murder-out” the white ivory piping and go all black piping with black elephant tolex
-no top handle, & removable casters baby!!

My FAVORITE moment is when I got to hear the Redbacks come through the large check grill cloth.
My immediate feeling..A CL80 flavor of the vibe
but tighter, more neutral and headroom which really helps for the super-cruncher’s.
Great for rhythm & lead.
But what got my shorthairs rising was to mix
one Redback with one H75 Creamback💯.
Super stoked on them after a couple of ruthless hours of pummeling.

I also noticed that they don’t purge out those fuzzy break-in artifacts at note decay.
That’s a bit of 1st.

I’ll sell my nuts before parting with this set-up.
Well wtf am I gonna do about being nutless??
Time to go grow some new ones.

Cheers for YEARS!!!

Update on the Redbacks:

-1st up, I would not touch a thing.
At this point, there’s no need to mix these gems
with any other speakers.
Tbh, most of what I heard about these speakers
is off the mark.
I don’t find them dark at all.
I also read reports of herds of bass..

Placebo reports??

The RB’s are well balanced & the speakers are quite receptive to equalization.
If you push the bottom, they don’t fart out,
-there’s HERDS of headroom but not EV type glassy/boldness.-not hi-fidelity like,
Maybe that’s where dude’s hear the warmth?
-along the outer atmosphere!
It’s hard to explain.

For me,
the most noticeable overall characteristic is there’s no frequency spikes & it sounds like
a kick ass Celestion💯

FYI,to the fellas wondering about the Lenz JMP
on top of the good ole’ Fatboy?

Lenz Amplificaton built a 20watt prototype
signature amp for the scorching Jeff Loomis called the Octane.

After freakin’ jonesin’ for some of that Octane
I consistently reached out to Eddie Lenz
& we came up with going with a 100watter…
Eddie located this 78 JMP with the original
transformers.
Fire the hole baby!!

Eddie Lenz mentioned in a recent episode of
Tone Talk on YouTube that he will be making
his modifications to amps available in the future.

For me, this amp is AIC Facelift, Dirt..unreal.
For both rhythm and the leads…
-them morbid appetite driven “Would” leads🎯
Even with the Octane mods
bonecrunching levels of gain,
-guitar volume roll-back is dope AF!!
Much like the Hot Chili amp,
it sounds & feels like a Marshall with a Fuzzface
dimed and your guitars volume set at 7.5/8.
That super yummy musical clean with sustain?💯
Too much to delve into.
Go get one.

Here’s the video Eddie made for the smp.
Check out how many beastly guitars Eddie
just relentlessly just keeps coming at you with…
Sick Eddie!!!

Congrats, that rig looks awesome.

Big fan of the Zilla stuff, would love to grab one of their 2x12 cabs one day

I was pretty close to buying a bare Zilla Fatboy a couple years ago. Those dudes are awesome, and will chat speaker pairings all day. I’ve actually kicked around the idea of downgrading from a 412 to the fatboy to streamline my setup. I have a Mesa V30 I would likely pair with something like an H75, though I really want to try an Alnico Creamback at some point.

Redbacks are interesting. They sound really great on most demos I’ve heard, but they don’t seem all that common. Do they pair up nicely with something else, or are they good on their own?
