Ran across this dual channel LPD pedal with each channel offering an 80’s hotrodded JCM800 or Jose Arredondo modded High-Gain Plexi to choose from. I couldn’t help myself. Gosh I love those type of tones. This is right up my alley. Can’t wait to get it… found a pretty great deal new. I am SUPER EXCITED! Here’s some pics and links. And no, I don’t have a problem with the color…

As some of you guys know, I’ve been on a MIAB hunt for a while. And I do have some fabulous pedals I’ve discovered in part to you fine gents. I’m hopeful on this one.

I would like to mention here a few of my keepers for reference and update my opinion on one in particular. Before that, here’s a short list from memory:

Carl Martin Panama
Caitlinbread Dirty Little Secret III
Neunabor Neuron (I know, but it’s MIAB to me)
Cusack Meta Plexi

Budget Gear
NUX Fireman (one trick “Friedman” pony)
NUX Amp Academy (JCM800 model no IR’s in to amp)

The update is on the Cusack. I initially tried on a DI test board using IR’s and headphones. It was pretty good.
When I tried it in to my Fender TM Super Reverb it was much much better. Excellent in fact. When I add in the Ponyboy v3 “Klon” and boost it, it’s just really remarkable. I played for two hours straight yesterday after trying that combo.

I would submit that anyone looking for these tones to try any of these pedals if you have a chance. They may or may not work for you and your setups but they are the ones that worked for me and I kept. Out of too damn many overall.

Fun stuff! Chime in!

Played this last night until I couldn’t any longer. This 87D pedal has me excited.

There a clarity and complexity in the harmonics that is very nice. I prefer using dual red channels with gain set to half on A and 2:30 on channel B. Very articulate, dynamic and volume rolls on the guitar are spot on. I use the internal bright switches on to enhance high-end frequency response with lower gain… either set via the gain knob (noon) or the volume roll.

I like it enough that I ordered the Seventy4 as well. LPD has it going on guys.

This company wasn’t on my radar and it looks like they’ve got a bunch of different Marshall inspired pedals. This review is tempting me. I might have to check out their Sixty8

Something that I had never experienced before is that, even with low gain and low volume, this pedal has almost unbelievable sustain.

Kind of like what I’ve experienced with a somewhat cranked amp where the sound from the speaker seems to effect the guitar and enhance sustain. Again, at low volume so it isn’t feedback at all. Just notes that hang and hang… maybe like a compressor or sustain pedal might do but without any compression. It remains incredibly dynamic. I guess the 24v running internally contribute to that.

I had read within the reviews on LPD’s website that a few seemingly seasoned players mention the sustain factor across the product line. In fact, Lawrence Petross (owner) said this about his Sixty8 Plexi pedal

“I wanted something that sounded and felt like my favorite 1968 Plexi. Completely natural note decay, no strange fizzy artifacts. It’s very dynamic, and responds to the guitar volume control and pick dynamics very well. Highly versatile with super-low noise and killer sustain, without needing a ton of distortion or fuzz to get it.

My Eighty7 Deluxe does that in spades and it’s mind-blowing in all honesty. I simply haven’t ever had a PEDAL do this especially without significant gain. I’ll be on the lower gain green channel and go from a slight crunch to clean simply by varying the pick attack… and it still just sustains the notes! Not even vibrato is needed.

Yes, I keep going on about this but… it’s a huge thing to me and very inspiring when you play. From what I can tell it’s a feature of all amp-based pedals he builds from the highest gain pedal (Eight7) to the lowest gain model Fifty5). Just incredible.
