Locking tuners for Gibson LP's?

I have used the best winding - over under lock em down technique but I am leaning toward locking Kluson ones as said winding is a pain. Have you all had success with lockers and what models would you opt for on LP's?

These

I'm too lazy to swap out my non locking Klusons for anything else on my Les Paul as they work fine, but depending on what you're after, the Gotoh SD90 are a good pick if you want it to look pretty traditional still.

I've always liked locking tuners because I'm lazy and like the 10 second restring, never noticed differences in tuning stability :idk

Ever since I started the wrapping technique like Bonamassa's tech recommended, I have no issues. When I was a kid I didn't know how to wrap strings properly and it was a pain. Now I prefer lockers but it's not as big of a deal. Heck I even adjusted to the annoying Gotoh auto lockers.

All my Axes have locking tuners except for my Godin, Im pretty sure doesn't do anything for tuning stability
I just love the convenience
I also lube the shit out of every string change and every friction point. All the nuts on my axes are also Graphtech XL
No tuning issues

This, this, this and a little more dis.

I got the Gotoh locking tuners on my Edwards, the ones that look like Grovers. On my Orville I’ve got the stock plastic Klusons and honestly, I’m scared to change a thing about that guitar because it sounds so damn good I have a superstition that one alteration will fuck it all up.

Never used lockers on a non-trem guitar. General rule of thumb has been not to use heavy tuners with LPs cause they can damper some of the neck resonance based on my readings on it. I found this out for myself putting some boat anchor Grovers on an LP ages ago just cause Page had them.

Both of my Lesters came with lockers. Come to think of it, so did my Pelham Blue SG

Modern Grovers are pretty bad in terms of backlash, they feel smooth but there’s a lot of play in the gears. Those Klusons are similar and both are no improvement in performance over stock. The traditional lock Gotoh SD91 is definitely better and if you already have a Grover find the Gotoh 510 21/1 ratio with the Grover mount. This is by far the best tuner available.

Sd91 steel construction, direct fit and way better than any other vintage style tuner.

And the Grover fit 510 ( yes you can get kidney bean or tulip buttons in the options.)

Forget the rest, these two are streets apart.

I love Planet Waves locking tuners. I have the 3 by 3 and 6 inline versions and they are very solid.
At least 5 or so sets of them.

I just installed Gotoh SD90 MG-T Vintage Locking Tuners on my PRS SE McCarty Singlecut. The installation was done without drilling, the tuners fit perfectly. I assume that they will also fit perfectly on an LP.

Yes perfect on a Les Paul and best in class. Watch out for the ones that use a bolt on the face because they would need a conversion bushing to bring down the hole diameter. These are vintage Kluson fit.

I grabbed a set of Gotoh SG301's. They're really nice I think. I put them on my Orville by Gibson LPC.

I've got 301s on my Gretsch, we probably talked about it?

Different guitars have tuning issues in different places. I worked out on my Gretsch that the slight tuning instability came from the bridge not quite returning to position when using the Bigsby, and that always making sure I finished by pressing *down* on the bar pretty much fixed it. The main benefit of the locking tuners has been quick string changes - I figure that with decent winding technique around a standard tuning peg, the string's not going to be slipping and moving at the peg after the first 10 minutes of playing and stretching in.
