So I’m going to be the “Warren” in a RATT tribute. Looking to grab one of these for sure. If it actually gets “out of the cellar” and some shows get booked, then I’ll get another for a backup.

I believe these are MIM, so what upgrades are needed? Are the Floyd’s on these garbage?

Now… both can be had for ok’ish pricing used. I’m leaning toward the blood splatter.

Thoughts?

The Floyd FRT 1000 did have issues when it first launched but they have largely been resolved. The only one remaining is gritty stiff fine tuners but if you take time to wind them up and down a few times and lube them they are fine. On early versions they had a poor fitting arm and soft bolts but now they are similar in quality to the German version. You can fit the push in bar or even the Red Bishop bar if you must have zero play. Don’t waste your money on FU stuff it is not an improvement.

Oh and the pickups and electrics are first rate.
The other thing to look for is that the edge of the fingerboard is not over bevelled reducing the available playing width of the fret. Over bevelled frets are also a problem in the long run. If you cherry pick MIM Charvel they are the best value guitars you can find.

FTFY.

Both? Or the Snakeskin. If you don't like the FR1000 (which I think these are), you can get some aftermarket bridges for decent prices.

Right on! Thanks.

Yeah if we get this rolling I’ll get both eventually.

Warren's tone was pretty stellar from the second album on. Even the self titled (what little I've heard, as I've always skipped it and need to get around to it some day) and Infestation have killer guitar sounds and playing. Crosby, DeMartini, and Cavazo are great players.

The shocking thing for me is that even $10k Gibsons still use the Korean FRT1000 floyd.

Yeah, that's a head scratcher. I have an new OFR still in the box that I may put on my Axcess down the road but after servicing the 1000 it works well so we'll see

MIM Charvel's Floyd 1000 trem studs can take the Floyd Original post screws if you want to upgrade your Floyd (but you must keep/use the Floyd 1000 top-screw clamp nut; the standard Floyd clamp nut is too tall). That's one thing I did with my Charvel So-Cal (featured here):

They make the same sizes.
