Is electric guitar dead for gen alpha?

People that are born after 2010, kids that never knew a world without cellphones, ticktock, instant media/music/movies.
Will they have the attention and time to learn an instrument?

I think so. The desire to make music is part of the human soul. The popular instruments will change with time, but people will always be seeking a way to create beautiful sounds.

I have a son who is just under two years old and he is enamored with my guitars.

Edit: I just realized that the tile of the thread and the question in the OP are different. My response "I think so" was in response to the OP and not to the thread title question.

My son is 13 and is learning drums...fast. He's probably a faster music reader than 60% of this forum and hits the kit like a truck. My daughter is 11 and learning guitar, vocals, and percussion. She also reads for all those. The school they attend has many kids in the same age range.

The idea that kids today don't have the time and attention to learn an instrument is, frankly, lazy thinking.

Wow!!

The question isn't whether or not electric guitar is dead for later generations, but whether or not they're capable of writing anything good. :grin

Things are circular and although guitar centric music has probably hit its peak, its not going away.

..and there's a new artist born every minute. That ain't stopping

Go onto Reddit for a day, there's a shitloaaaaadddd of younger kids getting into guitar right now. I'm only in 3-4 guitar-related subs on there and I still see plenty of kids rockin' out. I think it's probably due to the recent touring, but between seeing so many kids at the Pantera/Metallica show(s), I've also been seeing a lot of kids in those subreddits picking up guitar, I'm not concerned about the future of it in the slightest.

I just lent my Bacchus strat to a gen-alpha kid that has pretty much self-taught himself guitar based on what he knows from band/jazz-band on sax. Told him I'd do a little research on the dongle he would need to use it with his iPad and he got back to me about 20 minutes later saying he'd gotten it sorted with a cheap find on Amazon. Busy kid, but like us, still seems to have plenty of time/motivation to learn an instrument and figure out how gear works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
