I went a little crazy with new pedals: Day 4

Day 3

Today’s theme is correcting past mistakes

PastFX Chorus Ensemble

I stupidly sold the one I had and I’ve regretted it ever since. I corrected that mistake. New one arrived along with a famous taste of Australia care package from Verlie.

It’s every bit as amazing as I remember. IMO this is the best chorus pedal available today.

The chorus has an amazing warmth and depth to it, the vibrato is beautiful and has a good range of speed, and you can crank it and overdrive the preamp for fun drive sounds.

UA Evermore

This is the one I just bought from the recommendation in the other thread and it’s great. It’s exactly the reverb sound I was looking for!

That chorus and really all the PastFX lineup are very enticing :nails

Damn Sweetwater needs to be taking notes.

I see it as punishment for selling my last one. I think I need to eat the whole thing as an act of penance for that sin :rofl

I didn’t even tell Verle!!

BTW- apparently she’s cooking up a H&K Rotosphere replacement! At the same time Dawner Prince just got a Yamaha RA-200 to make a 2nd edition PULSE pedal. Definitely anxious for those to pop up!

Yup. And a $699 price tag, as I recall.

Just looks super fun and interesting. Price of admission is a tough ask for me, though.

How about the Benson stuff? You tried any of it, by chance?

Or the Hudson Broadcast? :popcorn

Ouch, that’s a bit steep… but I suppose there’s also a lot packed in there.

I haven’t tried those two, but both have been on my list for a while now.

That chorus and really all the PastFX lineup are very enticing :nails

I’ve been super impressed with everything from them! There’s a vintage-y-ness to the sound that I really like, with a lot of excellent modern updates and options

Nice haul. :banana:banana

Free side of Diabetes with the purchase of any pedal in the month of March

I have that pedal on my board right now. Been there for an hot minute. So good!
:chef

I just blew my Jan gig money on 12 new pedals :bag

They’re all arriving at various times so thought I’d post in one thread as they come in.

Day 1 new arrivals:

OBNE Fault V2

This is the big story for me here. I’ve been using a NOTAKLON on my big board and I keep thinking “I wish I could dial in a little more low end with my Strat”, and “I wish I could toggle between two gain settings.

Enter the Fault. It seemed like it might be a good replacement that would give me those two things and so far it does not disappoint!

I hate Klons for standalone drive, I only like them to boost another drive (or amp) harder. So far the Fault has been excellent for this! I love having 3 band EQ and the extra boost from Gain 2 is just perfect. The only downside is how close those bottom knobs are to the footswitches… I’m a little worried about that in the heat or battle, but we’ll see.

OBNE Sunlight

I got this because in theory it seemed like a better fit than the Dark Star on my board. Sadly this was a bad choice. Like the Dark Star it’s amazing for big ambient pads, but it’s incapable of anything more subtle than that. I might keep it around to throw in the board for gigs that call for that sort of thing, but It’s probably going to go.

EHX Small Clone

This I got for nostalgia. I need a chorus on my small electric board so I thought I’d go with something fun. I had one of these on my main gigging board forever and this new one sounds just how I remember. For $60 it feels like a steal!

I was a huge Kurt fan back in the day, but I actually didn’t even know he used a Small Clone back when I got mine! It was just what I found at my local shop when I went to buy a chorus and I liked the look of it. Back then I had no idea what anyone used unless there was something about it in Guitar World, haha
Met do you require any help with the GAS ⛽ :rofl

Day 4

OBNE Black Fountain

Got this because I wanted a compact delay that can do parallel 1/4 + .8th delays, I love the voicing of these type of delays, and I love the Bathing so much I had to try another OBNE delay.

First impressions - I love it so far! Just what I wanted and it’s easier to dial in subtle delay than the Bathing.

Walrus Deep Six

For a while I had one on my board and it was my favorite comp. I had to give it another try.

First impressions - mixed. I remember thinking I liked the chimey top end a lot, but right now my ears are hearing that as thin and artificial brightening. Like they intentionally voiced it that way to make us think it’s “chimey”. I was using an SG back then, maybe it liked that guitar better than my Strat?

EAE Longsword

Got this to try as a distortion option with a boost.

First impressions - I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. Sometimes it’s amazing, sometimes it’s… not. It likes being on its own better than stacking. I was surprised how good it sounds with clipping off as a low gain overdrive! And it works well on its own as a distortion either way the clipping on. It can stack well and the EQ helps, but the EQ is finicky. It’s really easy to dial in a terrible EQ. And sometimes the op-amp-ness comes across strident when stacking if not careful. It’s definitely got that great EAE thing to its sound though.

EAE Halberd

Got this to try as another amp-like OD option.

First impressions - it’s really really good… but maybe not quite as good as my Lightspeed. Honestly, if I didn’t have the Lightspeed I’d be more excited about it, but in comparison it’s not quite as organic, it sounds a little more flat, and it doesn’t clean up quite as well. On the plus side though it can get thicker, it’s got more gain on tap, and it has a wider variety of sounds in it - Lightspeed is kind of a one-trick pony. I can imagine scenarios where it could be a better choice depending on the music.

I had the mono version of the black fountain back in the day, such a cool pedal. Didn't know they have a stereo version now, that looks awesome and way more control!
